Help, Fluctuating Idle, Small Unsteady non rythmic pop in exhuast.
I started my car today and the idle seemed a bit high and i just shrugged it off as the warm up idle well all my way to work the idle would not go below a thousand rpms and it fluctuated up and down between 1000-1300 rpms i checked for vac leaks and didnt find any i felt the tops of my plug wires and cly's 2 and 4 had a tap in the top of the wire so i poped the wires off and those plugs were loose as all hell so we went ahead and replaced all the plugs/wires but the bad idle/ exhuast pop is still there, this just started this morning with the bad idle but the plugs might have been lose for a while ill never know.
any ideas of what else to check
no CEL on.

any idea where? i cant hear a leak ive check all the ones i removed capped during the intake install there the same as theyve always been.
ive been on here for maybe 15-20 mins and i went back out and looked at the vac lines all look ok, i started the car and it idled perfect for maybe 10 - 15 seconds no popping smooth idle at like 700rpms then after that it jumped back up started doing the same thing....

thinking the pop is a missfire when ever it pops the idle dips down a bit, but its not constant like if you were to remove one plug wire, its random.

Fast idle thermo valve, I believe you're supposed to feel a current through both of those holes inside your throttle body.

You're supposed to feel current on the bottom, I know I do on mine. Most likely the wax plug is stuck or something. I'm not entirely sure how to fix this.

Hm, sounds like you might be running rich, too. It sorta sounds like two unrelated problems. I'm not an expert though...
I think exhaust pops are usually caused by small amounts of unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust.... which would mean you are running rich. Maybe someone else can back me up on this or tell me I'm wrong...

hopefully someone will, how would i be running rich? youd think with I/H/E if anything id run leaner?
how old is the exhaust, it might be rusting, Mine is doing the same thing.
ok replaced cap/rotor/plugs and still high idleing, adn random pop in exhuast (misfire?)
any idea on what else i should check?

My engine is misfiring at idle, high idle, and i noticed now hella vapor comming out of the exhuast so yah color me confused. oh yeah still no power loss
According to helms that means:
1. Spark plugs worn or not gapped
New bosch +4
2. Fualty Wires
New OEM wires
3. Vacuum Leaks
Checked all lines seemingly no leaks
4. Incorrect Ignition Timming
5. Uneven or low compression
the last two or the only ones i havent looked into

started the car this morning and let it warm up and the idle has corrected itself it does the warm up idle and then settles down to 600-700 rpms, but its still missing and i reved it up to about 1500 and i can still hear it missing and at 2000rpms the same. so its missing throught the whole rpm band i just cant hear it at higher revs, there's a good amount of gas/vapor comming out of the exhaust so running rich.
so its out of time? or uneven compression?
haynes list a whole mess of **** to check, i dont have the tools to be doing half of this stuff....
