JDM 4-1 0wn3d! Beware the 71 Fwy!
71 takes you to the 60 fwy, the 10 fwy, 210, etc. It goes through Chino and Pomona. The car isn't rediculously low, but the JDM header hangs pretty low, and the steel plate with BOLTS sticking up is impossible to miss.
I've taken it slow in my stock CRX and it shook the hell out of the car. My Grandmother has a Millenia, and she told me hitting this spot in the fwy at more than 15 mph scares her. Mind you, there are no warnings, and this in the middle of the freeway.
That's California for you!

that looks like a DC JDM 4-1. They are known to have clearance issues. That however is more impressive than any other incedent I have seen.
OEM JDM 4-1 has great clearance compared to the others.

Drive through there all the time. I know exactly what your talking about. Sucks because they have those concrete barriers on both sides of the road and there is no way around it. Its one of those 1" thick metal plates they use to cover large holes with. For some reason though, they elected to leave about 8 bolts protruding about another 3/4" above that.
On a positive note: 71S to 91W sweeper is where i practice heal-toe.
Enter about 80mph and slow to about 30mph and power out...

Louie,
I know what you're talking about! It used to be pretty fun right there, until they put the stupid plate w/ bolts. From now on, I only drive my CRX if I have to take the 71.

If i am not mistaken, you can make a claim with the streets department. My cousin bent one of his rims on a good sized pot hole and filed a claim. The paid for the replacement of the wheel and tire. You might want to look into that.
that is true!! you can file a claim and get a lawyer. but that might take a while and cost you more money then it is worth. that header looks like a DC JDM. is that correct to assume?? or did you get the oem coated by jethot...or someone like hrc....but that looks really bad and that sucks!!!!! i would alos pay for sjipping if you wanna get rid of it!!! im in cali too...so think of mre if you wanna get rid of it. i have a beater that that might go into!!!!!!
Man you are lucky you did not damage the head with that blow or blow a head gasket I have seen a car that actualy cracked its head where it mounts to it because of the impact and the header looked just like yours
Man with all the tickets you guys get out there in Cali you'd think the streets would be nice. Cali is whack.

omg.. that's scary.. i'll never go on the 71 now.. thanks for the warning in advance! geez i say u try to get the state to pay for the damage.. i'm sure u aren't the only one that's hurting.
It's a DC JDM. I've already replaced it with another, but I opted for the Ceramic one this time, since I can't justify spending the extra cash on something that may very well be damaged again. I thought of filing a claim with Cal Trans or something, but I'm pretty sure I'd lose since my car is lowered and it has an illegal header on it.
I guess I'm lucky I didn't end up like the guy who ruined his head! I hope everyone in Southern California can learn from my mistake, and avoid the 71 S - 91 Interchange at all costs!

Yea, i just took the 71 today and went slow so to avoid damage and see exactly how bad the bolts are. GODDAMN those bolts are huge, now i see why that happened. But good to know you already replaced it, cuz the way your car sounded was
I smacked up my JDM DC CC 4-1 header on monday due to ground clearances at a gas station, IT was dark an the pavement going on to where the fuel pumps are were 6" higher. Needless to say bang, bottom primaries were shot. Luckily 2 of my friends are welding wizes. One friend Pulled out the two dents by drilling 5 small holes in the dent, screwed in a screw, heated the area with a torch until the metal was glowing, and pulled on the screw with a hammer. He repeated this process on the other primary. My other friend mig welded everything back up, and welded some extra metal strips where the header is likely to hit against thing. Next up were making a skid plate with 1/8th inch thick steel. It will protect from where the header is visible under the car. I'll let everyone know how that works out with pics as soon as its done. ANd also does anyone have that bracket underneath where the header bolts up to (i believe its either 2 12mm bolts or 10mm bolts)
The skidplate is a good idea for future protection. I think someone posted their method on here not too long ago.
I like that method of pulling out a dent rather than cutting out and rewelding, which is what I was going to do. Looks like I may still have a salvagable downpipe after all!
