Quaife LSD vs ITR LSD
From a performance vs "bang for the buck" standpoint, which LSD would you guys recommend?
For me, the main application for the LSD would be for autocross. Thoughts? Recommendations? Any other LSDs I should be looking at?
I should also mention this is for a '95 Integra GS-R and its daily driven...

Yeah from what i keep hearing, the OPM unit is a pretty good bang-for-the-buck. Gonna probably pick one up at the end of the season and let ya know how it works...next year...

I've only had experience with the ITR LSD as it worked wonderfully in my Type R. On the other hand, I've heard nothing but good things about the Quaife. You probably couldn't go wrong with either.
I dont know anything about the OPM unit. Is that OK for a daily driven car? I know Robs car sees alot of street miles, so streetability is going to be an issue. Somebody told me the Kaaz LSD is not the best choice for daily drivers because of high maintenance issues.

Not considering the price, I would pick the quaife. (Although the ITR lsd is awesome in the ITR at least.) The opm is the best deal of the bunch though, and that's why we have one.

Anyone here with an ITR LSD switch over to the Quaife LSD? Does it feel any different afterwards?
But other things will be different then, as well.
Would anyone have a website address for the OPM LSD so I can read up on it and compare to other once.
Thanks

the quaiffe just seems to rip. I am surprised at how much it bites (the ground that is). A friend put one in his EF with a ZC engine and he could leave burnout marks for both tires on the pavement. We tried that in a friends ITR and it couldn't leave burnout marks like that. I know you don't buy an lsd to do burnouts but it shows how agressive the quaiffe is.

Even the OPM as good as it is. It's still a clutch type which will eventually need maintenace. I would opt for the Quaife or should I say, I going to opt for the Quaife.
Yep, I 'd prefer a gear type (Quaife) over a clutch type (Kaaz & others) ones that are noisy and will need more maintenance. The Quaife is no doubt better than the ITR LSD because it also works when breaking, unlike the ITR's, and it is a 1.5 way LSD compared to the ITR which is 1-way.
I've autox with the type r, quiafe and ATS 20d, I honestly can't feel or noticed any different between the R and the quaife in performance. So I sold the quaife and try the ATS(clutch type). The differences is night and day!!! You will definitely notice it when you gas it out of a corner....it lock up so agressively that I almost hit the inside cones in every corner, I think I need to take a more agressive line and relearn the car again! The down side is the maintanance part but its no big deal for me since I only care about performance.
Daily driven---type r
Pure performance--Clutch type

Kekek: Where did you get your LSDs installed in the NY/NJ area? I want to go to someone who 's done this many times and knows what they 're doing. Also how much did you pay for labor?
thanks!

BTW Kevin,
How come I was 3/4 sec. faster than you last Sunday at the Coliseum with my stock GSR with no mods except for springs & shocks? and no LSD? Maybe that clutch type doesn't work so well? Just kidding!
Seriously though how much faster do you think my car (or I) will get with a Quaife on a 50sec. course? 1/4, 1/2 sec? I 'm just trying to see how much it will cost per 1/10 or 1/100th of a sec..
If it's 1/2sec. then I think it's worth it. Anything less, I don't know.. I could probably make less than 1/2sec. up by improving my skills and driving better (although I drove the **** out of the car Sunday to get that 8th rank overall).

I've heard great things about the ATS but I don't really have the funds to keep trying different LSDs (unless someone wants to fund my autocross adventures). I have the Quaife in my car right now and the difference over stock was incredible. Had I known the difference it would make it would have been the first mod I did.
If any of you guys want to try and sell me on the ATS LSD... just lend me a car

Matt, did you have to buy anything else besides the LSD unit? I hear you have to also replace a bearing in the tranny? Which bearing exactly is this? The Quaifes are on sale right now for $800 (or $100 off) for our cars so I 'm sitting here at work constantly thinking about ordering one.. and can't concentrate on work!

Vteconly, I lost the front lip spoiler and no down force for traction...
. Seriously, I found out the my skunk arm slipped all the way to negative and was running all most 2 inches toe in when I do check my alignment afterward
. I've just changed all the allens out yesturday with M6x20mm bolts with nuts and locitite and hope they will do the job.

Really you can't compare a Kaaz or Mugen unit to a Quaife, ITR, or a phantom unit.
Instead you should ask the benefits of each. The Kaaz and Mugen are clutch types. Then can be rebuilt. They are sealed units (note: if you break any internals in a quaife, ITR or any other gear unit, the pieces will get into your tranny and distroy your tranny...TRUST ME...I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT!!!). Gear type...say you are on the track, you hit the apex of a turn by bouncing over the curbing...the inside tire lifts off the ground. At this point you DO NOT have a LSD unit, you have an open diff if you have a gear type LSD. If you have a clutch type, the outside tire will still pull. Granted you may have to rebuild the clutch type units every two years or so, but that's life. A quaife or ITR, etc gear type unit has a 60% lock-up. Clutch types...what ever you want. They come at 100% lock-up, but you can build them at what ever lock-up you want. So like I said, gear vs clutch type LSDs, you're comparing apples to oranges.
