I'm building my 00 SI. I have a JG pro series 1.8L GSR with my ported and polished b16a head. I ran ITR's in it and now I'm upping the boost from 9 psi to 20 psi. What cams do u guys recomend for all out drag? My turbo is the standard t3/t04e.

 

stock gsr cams. ....seriously.

 

stock gsr cams are good, you are right on that. for 9-10psi they will be fine, if you do have the money to fork out look into getting a cam designed for a turbo application. The overlap on the lobes on the vtec cams are known to hinder performance, but again with 9-10 psi i wouldnt really worry about it.

Thanks guys, but my best friend works at a Race engine shop. They mostly do V8 stuff but he says the way my head is ported and reshaped that stock cams won't be enough to flow for that head. I live in Michigan and there aren't allot of great tuners out here for Honda's. Anyone recommend a cam? I get great hookups on crower if anyone has tried them and has had good results.

So basically everyones vote here is for a GSR cam?

 

I've heard that GSR cams are good too. That's what I'm going with.

 

Stock cams are not good for big turbo motors. They fall off too much on the top end. I have my own spec of cams I grind for my race car. Ive dynoed them vs. stock and theres about a 20hp increase. High lift and low duration is good stuff....Mike

 

Please define what a "big" turbo motor is... whp, boost, etc.

 

I personally saw a gsr turbo push 468whp with CTR cams.

 

What I ment by big is guys making over 0ver 450 wheel hp. I dynoed a car with 500 with stock b16 cams...but it still falls of on the top end. The hp will be there, but it doesnt carry through the graph. it will start dropping real steap around 7 grand.

We made 650whp on stock cams with a head that only valve springs and SS valves with no porting AT ALL. This was at 26psi.

my good friend makes 670whp on stock GSR cams, makes power all the way to 10k rpm +. Its all in head porting and cam timing

 

 

for under 600 horsepower to the wheels, you do not need anything other than gsr cams. ****, you get rediculous torque gains from a bigger bore(84-85mm). turbo cam grinds can only do so much and should be the last thing you would purchase.

By that logic, then a cam bigger than the type r will make even more horsepower. I can't believe that a cam designed years ago for allmotor applications, is the best anyone can do for a turbo. The Crower turbo cam has specs that are nothing like the type r. Are they all wrong and their cam is a joke? The only real way to answer the questions is to dyno various cams on the same dyno on the same day to throw down comparable whp numbers.

 

for OVER 600 horsepower you still dont need cams - ITR cams still work fine - i have seen them create upwards of 700whp

but then again if you have money and want to make power - get a bigger turbo that t3/t4 is gonna tap out real early...

i agree. i just threw out a big number cause he wanted big numbers.

i've personally witnessed 2 cars make over 600 to the wheels with excellent power curves, both with gsr cams.

hmmmm i just may hold on to my itr cams after all. We have had good luck with the Crower 63402T thoguh. Consistantly making over 300 whp with 10 psi

 

skunk2 came out with a turbo cam but not suer if its good or not but im using ctr and its phat!
ive tried gsr and itr and i like ctr the best! but looking into the skunk2!

 

best thing about crower cams is when they break and destroy your whole motor. I love it when that happens on VTECs

 

Is there any certain grind that seems to break more times than others. I scrapped my LS head for a GSR and im concerned about replacing cams if i need to. i have heard from WEB cam themselves (nearly all cams are made form the same cores dont matter the cam grinder) that its the lack of using the itr lost motion assemblies causes them to break due to lack of clearance. Now i dont know what is the difference other than the fact that they must allow more lift if this statement they gave me holds any water. I am lost in the whole matter cause i have no idea why WEB would cover for Crower. CAn anyone confirm that the itr LMA's are any better than the GSR's

 

well if thats the case then why did mine break in a ITR head?
