Default Transmission slip 1st to 2nd gear on 98 Accord Coupe EX/4 cylinder/Auto

I have noticed my transmission slips (meaning the engine revs up) between 1st and 2nd gear. Happens worse when the engine is cold, but happening more as time goes on (even when the engine is hot). So the questions are:

1. What is typically wrong when this symptom appears?
2. How is it fixed (adjustments vs. replacement of parts)?
3. Where should I take it (Honda dealer vs. Transmission shops)?
4. What should I expect to pay for diagnosis and repair?

I know what a transmission used to look like 25 years ago, but have not touched once since, so I am attempting not to get screwed...

Thanks in advance,

Dan

1. Go to walmart

2. Buy TransX automatic transmission treatment (blue can) and two quarts of valvoline tranny fluid

3. Go to Lowe's

4. Buy Liquivac

Now suck out the liquid from the tranny using liquivac and then funnel in 1 quart and the bottle of transX

Then drive the car to a Jiffy Lube and deploy the finger.

You saved yourself 200$ (Check tranny fluid and fill as needed with the second quart - probably will need it)

Repeat as needed until the liquid is pink after driving for a week

forget all that crap man, his trans is toast and it needs to be replaced as the internal filter is clogged causing the clutch packs to burn up

OP how many miles? do you have service records on car?

see if honda will help you with repairs

idk, I have the same problem on my 96 ex as the tranny is toasting my fluid. I'm just changing the fluid on a weekly bases while putting in a trans cleaner liquid and it's actually helping with burning it less (and it shifts smoother and doesn't slip [as much])

It's a lot better than spending 1500 to replace tranny on a old car that's worth maybe 3500 tops

60$< 1500$ ... It's ghetto but it works

point is what you are suggesting is a waste of time. everyone (besides you) knows that once a transmission starts slipping in gear with the fluid level at normal levels = trans toast. A simple search of this forum will reveal the extent of this problem...........

You can prolong the trans if you change the fluid and keep the temps low. Otherwise it would be better to just drive the trans until it fails so at least you can get maybe a week a year .. 2 years more out of it.

I'm putting 1.5 quarts of royal purple max atf with 1 qt. rislone transmission repair fluid (stops slipping and reconditions) (so far in the last 100 miles the trans is shifting better and the engine is more responsive)

So until i get into my car and it doesn't move ... 20$ a month on atf fluid is a small price to pay vs 1500+ for a tranny change on a car I bought for 2000
