Default MAACO aint so bad after all...

well i just got back from the maaco in my town to check up on my ride. and i have to say...i can't complain! matter of fact...i am very impressed with the paint job!! i can't believe how good it looks!!! it turned out that the color i chose had a lot of pearl in it. under the sunlight not only can you see red pearl but blue and a few other colors...and this is a $500 paint job but i did my own bodywork...i'll keep everyone updated and post pics when i get the car back! i just can't wait...

I agree....One thing that I learned when it comes to paint jobs is spend the money and have it done right. The paint jobs done MACCO and other cheap paints shop willn't last long. I've had little spots here and there when at new paint chipped off.

I participated in the last discussion on Maaco, went out and got an estimate on my car...they had a package deal for around 350...with tax...but here's the thing...I looked at some of the cars...looked really nice...I told him all I was told on here about the 2 stage vs. 1 stage paint/clear coat...he said that the one stage would be fine...as long as it's waxed regularly...as for body work...I have a little more to tweak on my car before it goes there next week sometime...and he said that you shouldn't try and mask it...just write down what you DO NOT want painted and they will take care of it...at least that's what the guy said at the one where I live...I think this whole aspect of the quality is subject to area...IMHO...

was it ultraurethane package? That is a good type of paint they use. I am not surprised it came out well. If you get anything less than I kinda agree you will notice fading and little glossyness after a few months. If it is the ultraurethane deal than you will be happy until someone keys your car.

Trust me, been through both and the ultraurethane till this day still looks good (about 3years still no fade and shiney as ever, I don't even use wax just car wash wax sometimes). Don't believe the people who never went to maaco and talk smack about it. They are just mad because they paid too much for their paint. Good for you.

I had my 66 caprice painted by Maaco 3 years ago and it still looks great! I was very impressed and so is everyone else who asks where I got it painted. If someone could tell me how to post pics I would put up some I just took last week.

i didn't get the ultraurethane package but i did get something called the super pak!
it comes with value prep (they sand it, mask it, then primer seal it which acts like a magnet to hold the paint in place) it comes with integrated clear coat and a presidential paint job i know its the second lowest selection but...well...i'll let you guys decide when i post it up on monday...and once the paint has fully cured, i'm going to put on some wax to protect it

integrated clear coat is called enamal they do a single stage paint that means no clear and every stage they have is the same u just pay more for a name....id rather find someone that i know that does good work and pay 800 for a full paint job engine bay and all

Well I used to work at Earl Shieb, detailing cars. But what I know is that you get what you pay for. If you go to a production shop, Macco, Earl Shieb, and you pay for the $100 paint job, you get waht you pay for, no warranty, just tape it, paint it and go. But if you get the package that has, complete prep, and primer it all, seal it off, you will get what you pay for then, and still only costs around 500 bucks, with a 4 year warranty..

And the Earl Shieb i worked at would take people who bring there own paint, but they wouldnt warranty it. Which is kinda bullshit because PPG is way better paint then the Earl Shieb **** they use, but the thing was they couldnt just go get it out of there closet with all the paint they would have to buy it.

yeah well $500 is all I had for a paint job but its still better than an ambassador

i'm familiar with the saying "you get what you pay for" and thats what i told the guy at maaco. i was going to get a $300 paint job but he insisted that i get the super pak if i wanted the paint to last a few years especially when winter comes and trust me guys you haven't felt cold until you come to this town

That looks pretty good, if you didnt tell me it was maaco, i wouldnt have known. Did you pick that same color, or did you just tell them what color you wanted it?

Paint most certainly will shine w/o clear coat. Clear is a protectant, and will add more depth to that shine. I wouldn't recommend going w/o it.

And make sure you do NOT wax your car for at least 2-3 months after having the car painted.

Give us your opinions after 3 months.
exactly...your paint will go from glossy to flat...in a matter of months..
do you have personal experience with this?

Remeber its different everywhere you go. Who says someone in Cali does the same work that someone does in OK?

My grandfather and i had two cars painted at one day. The blue car lasted about three years before it started fading. The other car was painted red and started fading right away after 1 yr it was more of an orange. Good luck with yours I hope it lasts
