so i bought this turbo and is supposed to be a Garrett 60-1 T04S Ball Bearing Turbo.
but it looks like the turbine fins dont fit well and they have very small chips in them.
someone give me some advise on what im in for here.

Yeah for sure that housings to big. What does the tag in the middle section say? I almost want to venture and say its not a 60-1 but I can't be certain. That turbo had to perform horrible in the person's car.

Take some pictures of the tag and exhaust housing as well.

 

i hope you didnt pay too much for it, i learned that its better to buy it new than used or rebuilt. I got my t3/t4 rebuilt and less than two month later it had worse shaft play than when i took it in. It looks like they just put a bigger cover on it without changing the wheel itself, kinda like a half-assed up grade. From what i understand, in order for the turbo to be efficiant or just to even work properly the fins need to be as close to the housing as possible. The chips on the blades show what happens when you suck in debris when you dont use an air filter, not a good sign. good luck, an i'm sure somebody that knows more will chime in.

no it has no shaft play. but where would i get a bigger wheel for it?

Wow, pop the housings off and measure the wheels. Judging by the huge gap between the wheels and the housing on both sides it has to spool very slow and make boost very late if at all.
Looks like it was put together with mixed parts.

yeah post the measurement of the inducer and exducer of the compressor wheel and i can tell you what it is exactly. looks like a 57trim with a 60-1 cover on it. it will spool but will sound like a supercharger and wont make boost as fast. ive experianced this before.

 

yeah i dont know how to measure the wheel. but i got scammed. this blows. any idea if its at all possible to buy and change the wheel to a 60-1 p trim?

 

Who did you buy it from so the next person doesn't make the mistake of buying something from him.

 

jspec22 has all other kind of stuff for sale. he tells me he made 554 with the turbo like this. i know he is full of it. but he claims that garrett sold it to him like this. scammer.

HE IS SUCH A LIER.. Garrett would NEVER sell a turbo like that let alone any other reputable shop. That turbo had to have performed horribly. Link us to the thread so we make sure know one else get scammed.

Its not a cheap ebay turbo, its an actual garrett. I sent the turbo with two exhaust housing that should have came in the box. A t4 .84 ar and a t3.82 ar. I didnt package the turbo. it was dropped off at the shipping location and the lady does the packaging like she does doe all of the items i ship. I even sent you alll the oil feed and drain lines along with the turbo.

i talked to him on aim and first he said he bought it off ebay then later he said garrett.
this guy is full of it. even if he did buy it like this. he is the seller. he should know what he is selling. now he refuses to give me a refund. because i thought i was buying a 60-1 not this crap.

 

Scammer, I can't believe he is even trying to play it off like nothing is wrong still. Someone who has never seen a turbocharger in their life could probably tell you that turbo looks wrong.

They are the right parts. Its an actual garrett turbo and the reason why it was loose is becuas ei unclocked it for my car.... If you didnt get the other exhaust housing thats on the shipping place because i paid for the complete turbo and a t3 .82 ar exhaust housing to be shipped. The lady put them both on the sale, i paid, and she boxed the items in store like she always does. So i can go there tomorrow for the other exhaust housing. Fins can get a little messed up after 1200 miles, and i believe i sent you pictures of everything before you bought it.

just fit some compressor housing on it. its a 50 trim
non ball bearing turbo and its not even a garrett. this guy is a real sob.

The turbo is water and oil cooled which is a clue its BB but that still doesn't justify his wrong doing.

I feel for you man. People are so F-ing shady nowadays, they will do anything to make a quick buck. That turbo is worthless. The COMP housing is still good.
