Default clean and simple 93 DA9 project (lots of pics...56k go build your own car)

So I picked up a 93 Integra GS due to my interest in early 90's Hondas (it was either this or an EF). My objective here is to have a clean daily driver that's fun to drive and can be parked outdoors without fear of being stolen immediately.

First day:

UGLIEST STEERING WHEEL IN THE WORLD. Damn you Grant wheels and your ugly, 5 bolt wheels. You can get a glimpse of the ricer pedals that were on this thing as well. I'm gonna have to clean this...who the hell lets their steering wheel get this filthy?

Here's the interior with the original carpet in.

It was really gross.

So, we ripped out the carpet.

Here's a shot in front of our house, Art working on his new black DA as well

The paint is really nice except on the top, where it's somewhat faded. They rattle canned the roof...and decided not to mask off the sunroof when they sprayed. ha. A bit of paint thinner fixed that though.

While I'm stuck with awful tan, he has sexy LS Special Edition two tone!!

The car came with an old Kenwood CD player that skips over every bump (and I'm on soft OEM suspension...I can't imagine how it'll be when the car is low and stiff) and blown out, SUPER cheap speakers. So, we hit up N1 Concepts over in South SF for some very reasonably priced goodies.

I picked this one up because it had auxiliary input which I thought was interesting. I need to pick up some sort of conversion harness, though. If anyone knows what I need to do for this, let me know.

Speakers shipped from Japan! Some sort of Pioneers for the back and some Pioneer Carrozzeria's for the front. I'm pleasantly surprised by the sound quality!

Ok, time to get rid of tan stuff. Went to the junkyard and picked up all of the paneling except the doors and some little goodies as well.

Tan stuff being removed including leather back seats

Picked up some grey headrests at the junkyard to replace the tan ones. I'll be getting new seats but this makes it look better for now. Eww at the tan door panels...I haven't cleaned them yet.

Black stuff! Except for the hood popper. I couldn't figure out how to get it off at the junkyard without breaking it...I'll get one next time.

lol @ sound deadening

and something else I got from N1...JDM rear seats with headrest and tan seatbelts

Trunk paneling is in! I plan to just paint the rear carpet for now until I find a nicer (black) one with intact seat clips. The cargo cover is a little grungy but it works.

And to close for now, a little shot I like of the four headrests

Coming soon:
-carpet
-seats
-suspension
-wheels

Stay tuned!

nice, and good luck with the project. Spend the weekend myself ripping the inside out, cleaning everything on my DA. Pressure washed the carpet, and man does it look nice.

Nice work so far. I did the tan to black conversion in my last da. I wish i saw this thread yesterday because i just threw away all of my rear black seatbelts. I would of gave them to you for free. Dupli color flat black vinyl and plastic paint works great on plastics and looks oem when it dries if you didn't have replacement pillars already.

Thanks for the recommendation, I actually went and bought some today I read a few threads about it and it seemed like the right thing to do.

Ok, picture time.

I sold my coupe so I took the GS wheels off the Integra and put the Panasports on.

The wheel gap with stock suspension is crazy!!

Just kidding. It is pretty ridiculous though.

Goodnight! crap, I really need to pick up some new turn signals. I just bought some normal looking clears to put on there to approximate the look until I go insane and drop a bunch of money on the one-piece headlights.

Yeah, I guess someone thought they were cool, hip, or race car status...and not props from a cheap science fiction film

Ok, so I decided to pick up some Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric paint since I saw it was highly recommended around H-T.

I only bought one can so I decided to try it out on one plastic piece and one piece of carpet.

ewww tan

Here it is during painting...it dried almost that glossy too. I'll get a better pic later.

Looking better...

Dammit, I ran out of paint!!

So my advice to anyone who wants to paint anything with Duplicolor Plastic/Fabric......buy a bunch of it! I had to go to two Kragens to find this stuff, and they only had one can. Guess it's popular. TO BE CONTINUED when I can find more of this....

The paint on that e-brake cover is entirely too shiney bro. You should look into the SEM paint.

Yeah, dammit. Originally I was gonna use SEM but Duplicolor is cheaper and I saw a lot of good reviews on H-T. The paint was wet in the pic above...I'm not sure it turned out any less glossy.

Which is a bummer because I'm planning on painting my door panels too. I don't know if want them to be SUPER SHINY. It'll look like I have them hardcore Armor-All'd constantly

haha, it's also ugly as faack The rear seats are in really really good condition...if I had gotten the full GS with tan leather fronts (as opposed to just the headrests) I might have kept it....leather GS/GSR seats are teh rare

If anyone wants any tan pieces, let me know. I'm gonna put up an ad later today I think...my girlfriend keeps telling me to get the old interior out of the house

It looks like you went a little heavy on the cosole. I painted my armrest and it isn't shinny at all.

SEM paint. This interior went from blue to black. Landau Black to be exact.

And a different user's armrest

I threw away the can but it tells you to do like 6 coats or something, which I shouldn't have listened to. It only took a few thin coats to get it nice and black, the last couple were probably what gave me the super shine

SYNSEI: yeah, I remember seeing that picture when I was searching H-T. That looks exquisite. In the end, the cheaper Duplicolor won...well, you get what you pay for. Hopefully better technique will prevail next time and I'll get better results. I still have a few things to paint (minor trim pieces, ebrake handle/boot, door panels).

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on where to get black seatbelts? I could always go to the junkyard and get them from some donor car...but I heard that dealerships are supposed to provide free seatbelt replacement, so I was thinking of removing the tan belts and rear seat and taking it to the dealership, where I'll tell them I bought it this way and I need some black seatbelts

Default small update

ok, here are some quick pics. Had to go down to DHL because they wouldn't deliver it to my house (I got a note that said "TO[sic] RISKY"). But I got my goodies

The clears are a little too...white but oh well.

Here's what it currently looks like. Haven't put the new ones on yet...

...but Art did Stock bumper lights obviously, but that's what the clear corners look like. We ended up ordering the same lights at the same time from the same eBay seller (not on purpose) and they came at the same time. Cool.

Thanks man. It's car madness over here, I'm so indecisive...out with the coupe, in with this, and already I'm thinking of trading this thing for someone's EF!
