Wrecked DA, I think its done for, want a second opinion
First and foremost I only have liability and comprehensive. I do NOT have collision insurance so my insurance wont be totaling it.
I wrecked my DA yesterday and I am pretty sure its done for but just wanted to make sure people agreed before I buy another body and put everything in it. At first glance I thought it was going to be ok but when I got it to where it was driveable to get it home I had to hold the wheel 45 degrees to the right and then I noticed the drivers side wheel was alot closer to the wheel well. Note that the fluid that looks like oil is the power steering fluid from where the hose rubbed against the pulley.
See pictures below
At the scene of the accident

Before I popped the hood

Under the hood shot

Wheel well (notice the fender looks workable)

Pushed against PS pump

Another under hood shot

Passenger fender virtually un-touched

Bumper removed

Under bumper (used headlight was placed on to get me home)

based on the year of the car, insurance will total it. whether are not you get money for it, it wont be much. you could use that money to get another shell and swap everything. rebuild and retorque everything. what happened?
I dont put collision insurance on a swapped car just because the chance of having to buy back the car with my motor in it.
The plan I have now is to buy another shell and swap all my goodies into it and then sell all the parts from my old car
or fix it up. But I dont know if this is fixable really.
about what happened, I just flat out looked off the road for a second and rear ended a car that was turning left. I got some nice whiplash from the deal to so making my car drivable to get it home was quite painful. No medical insurance so i am just SOL with that.

i used to own a DA like yours. i got in a similar accident, only i was rear ended, and my car spun into a guard rail. similar damage and i'd have to say yours is done for.
that's ok though! you can get a DC4 instead!
sorry for your loss man.

buy it back from insurance, and fix it. it is an easy fix. I've replaced numerous radiator supports. Very easy. Buy yourself a good drill, a few black&decker new drill bits with the faster cutting design, a step drill bit (autozone $15) and drill all the spot welds out of it, then get someone to weld a new one on (ebay $150).

wow u've obvioulsy never worked at a bodyshop have you? This DA is completely fine, I dont see any major damage the shell chassis or frame. 500 bucks and this DA can look just like it did before. A few visits to the junkyard will do. After you buy it back ofcoarse.

If I read correctly, he doesn't have full coverage and is just keeping the car no matter what. The insurance doesn't cover it, so he won't be buying it back period.
He just wants to know if it is worth fixing.
The answer is YES.
$300-$500 if you fix it yourself, $1000-$2000 if you have a good body shop fix it. Or less than a $1000 if you have a shady job done, but if I were you, I would just fix it yourself.

Fantastic reply. and yes, I do NOT have full coverage
alright, so I realize I need a radiator support but what do I need to fix the wheel thats gone back towards the wheel well. Also, look where the bumper connects to the frame, it is smashed in as well. Does this change how much it will take to fix it.

have u already had an estimate done. u might need the use of a hydraulic ram. a radiator support, a radiator, 2 fenders, a hood, a bumper some one piece headlights, hell why dont u just buy a JDM front clip off passord jdm minus the motor n tranny. its definatly fixable but it will have to be measured and maybe pulled. u might need a controll arm or two n an alignment.
is it worth it? depends on how much u like the car? realisticly no
that motor would be just as good in a hatch!
but DA s clean!

looks fixable.just do a ghetto fix for now..chain that rad support up and pull it back out.then get new headlight,hood..and possible alignment?

[freak] no thats defenatly fixable! I got in a similar car wreck, only I hit it on the side and I fixed my car! take a look at it I have a pic of it on my page.
why fix it though?? If it was a GSR I'd be all for it, save the dieing breed. Just another run of the mill Da. Scrap it and find another for under a G. I've seen so many sell for under 1500 that were clean as can be!
Scrap it. and start something new.

thats whats missing these days... the "love" ppl have for their cars... why give up on it... I wrecked my DA but fixed myself for many reasons and didnt give up. One it was my first car...and it NEVER gave me problems like my DC and EG gave me...(personally I dont like them) and second...my son is attached to it just as much as me...he knows the engine code name of the car and loves the exhaust note..lol...little things that get u attached to ur car...I'll probably keep it to give it to him when he is the right age! ..if you want to keep it and fix it...do it and dont listen to other ppl ...
I love this teg. That is why I want to keep it. If I wanted a different body I have a perfectly good 1995 GSR 4 door shell rolling chassis with clean title. If I dont keep this wrecked teg then I will buy another DA
more pictures from today. My main question is, it doesnt look like any damage went back to the wheel well, so how and what got damaged to put the wheel so close to rubbing.
Washer fluid res still holding fluid

bumper bracket crushed in as well as everything around it

Notice the crease pointed to

close up of crease

This is fixable... its really easy to fix it,. this is not even expensive, I've bought cars in worser conditions and i had them fixed for less than 700 on paint and labor. A good shop should make this car look like it was never in an accident, but it might be a little more. But that is if you think its worth to fix it or to just buy another shell, Really up to you from here.
My DA that I bought from the junk yard I worked at was hit a lot weaker than that.
I think you could fix it, but I am not sure if you could throw it on the frame rack or have to put a new core support on it. Was there any damage to the DA's awesome front suspension set up? It looks fine from the pics, but those radius rods can be tricky. I don't see any creases in the sheet metal of the core support which makes me think you can just fix it on a rack. That is what I did with mine, and although it looked top notch, I had to adjust the headlights differently so I know it was not perfectly square. Perfect time to get rid of your power steering as your next mod.
In all seriousness, though, I did that with 15 wheels and pretty big tires and still never had a hard time parking in a fairly big city.
I would personally fix it myself, but I might be skewed, my DA is white too.
LOL at the non-readers spouting insurance this and that when it has no bearing on your situation.
