what can it be? Starting problem....
Okay I have a 91 crx hf swaped with a 98 cx block and 91 si tranny&ECU...
Been a while already since the swap almost 5 months now...all those time didn't seem liike nothing was going wrong, other then I guess a little bad idle or so at first of starting the car? then afterwards it idle runs normal....
Anyway now one day I went to park it, park it same as every time i had started it. Then that same day that afternoon or so wanted to go somewhere went and start it nothing just die. Well at first it started,crank etc. but it just plunged and die I don't remember well but only light I got was the engine light, no battery light I'm sure....swap was done by a shop so I guess you can say "professionally swapped?"
Only thing that happen every time I tried starting it was clicking/ticking noise and that was it....
Starter,cap, Ignition Module/Control Unit I changed new after seeing that it doesn't start it it still does not start....old starter was working but was starting to go out, modula tested bad...so that why bought modula instead of deciding whole new distributor and now just the ticking/clicking noise after the parts install then after trying for a while just plain nothing
Battery still checked out good like 3 times, not new new but only had it a year thats how old battery is....alternator on engine was changed by previous owner....
I DON'T KNOW what else it can be....I can freaken spend more money on a whole damn new distributor or new battery and replace current thermals or I don't know...a buddy looked at it and said it's something electrical causing starter to not work?....any ideas? anything else I'm missing or need to do that'll take care of it or what cuz I'm out of ideas as to what....LMK TIA

whoa. check your alt. fuse under the dash, check your ecu fuse under the hood. after making sure those are ok, try it again and when you click the key into the "on" position (3rd click) listen for the fuel pump to humm, then you will hear a faint click noise when humming stops. If you don't hear the fuel pump humm, and no click, check your main relay.
yeah I know. Well I didn't mention it but I did checked the fuses and made sure they're okay...and they look good...
I'll try to listen to the fuel pump.....I'll check the relay again/check everything again and again just to be sure like I'm somewhat doing already

Okay so I replace the main relay nothing....but about main relay is 88-91 crx/civic hatchback all the same as long as same volts/pins? cuz I got 3 main relay from the local junk yard tried two and same thing not starting/turning over just clicks....the main relays I picked up looked a bit diff. from my main relay but still pluged in and the new relay looked like my other rex (have two rex but tried switching main relays 1st before picking up newer relays and nothing just clicks then afterwards nothing)
but now it seems I'm getting the battery light?
BUt like I said battery checked out 3 times GOOD...and everything works a/c and radio I guess though i didn't put face in....

well from first time of turning car on, battery light didn't came on....though when battery is dead light will come on but battery is not dead..yeah I think so because I hear what seems to be a humming sound with a bit of gas small<--which was normal from before so yeah? Gas I mean I'm low on it but not empty probably a gallon or two left...let me know???

No don't think so, so would have to say no and I'm thinking it's most likely the the alternator even though it was changed by previous ownner-said he replaced it...and so just don't really want to unless it is cuz thats $160

Okay so before I started to take apart things and take out the alternator I try starting it and couple times it just almost turned over but didn't and after it not turning same crap all over again nothing....so I'm saying most likely alternator but [freak] freaken a bitch to get this crap out from the bay....don't know what the deal is but freaken tight all over and no luck getting it out...started to rain so had to stop for a while but will go back and try again but ****

have to remove your drivers side axle to pull out old one and put in new one... I've never seen or heard of an alternator causing the engine to not even TRY to start the car... car will start and run with alternator not even pluged in
really no alternator and it'll still run? really haven't heard that?..well got it out now so will get it tested tomorrow and see if it's still good or not but beats me I'm all out of ideas.....so if it comes out that the alternators good then I don't freaken know what else...maybe I'll just throw the freaken motor away and swap it to a B series after I get alternator and maybe look into a new battery and it doesn't start still..but battery is freaken mint checked it 3times came out good...so I don't know what else...I mean I searched and read everyone else post about their car not starting and their fix but what the freaker is up with my crap

I'm experiencing a similar problem, however, in my case ECU doesn't even light up. I'm new to car repair, but i'm assuming that I need to replace the ECU.

ok lets break this down.
Job of the alternator - charge the battery while engine is running.
knowing that, ask yourself "what does the alternator have to do with starting the engine?" the answer is NOTHING!
So put down the alternator and take a step back for a moment.
when you attemp to start the engine, you just hear a clicking sound correct? You are positive that you have a good battery? How did you test the battery to prove that its good?
Lets break down the circuit. Your ignition switch is obviosly working if your hearing a clicking sound when starting. Everything has power assuming your battery is good, you replaced the starter (remember, just because the part is new doesnt mean its good). The only thing left is the connection to the starter. Have you tried jumping the starter terminals to see if it cranks on its own? If so check the wiring, thats the only thing left in the circuit.

far as fuses/relay I guess my main relay was going bad on me so I swicthed it to my other crx a LS swap and it didn't work so main relay was bad so replaced it and took the main relay from LS swap crx to the none running crx and almost start but didn't...but yeah cehecked all my fuses already.....

Im confused now. Before you were saying you couldnt get the engine to "crank", then it starts/dies immediatly now it doesnt start again?

Do you know how to check for spark? If so make sure your getting spark on all 4 cylinders, hell pull the plugs for a visual (fuel soaked, shorted electrode etc).

I'm still confused about wether then engine is spinning when you turn the key or not... does the engine go yidit yidit yidit???

nope so sparks after new distributor which is why engine is not turning over...just yeah yidit sound....my grounds are okay, looks fine...I told peeps maybe it is ground or my wire but they say can't be...sounds more like starter but brand spanking new starter and nothing...i mean I guess it can be ground but why would it be ground if all the sudden it just dies? I guess if the wire got burnt or corroded but my bay is pretty clean doesn't get wet just dusty...?But I guess it is something elcictrical that's why it's not starting but if it's wires/ground will have a buddy who's pretty good with electrical come check it out this Thurs. or so otherwise it'll just be sitting not getting fix or till i mess with it or something but out of ideas
just wondering reading all the post of CRX or cars not starting....I'm sure I put the plugs in the right order??because I looked at a firing order and did that but unless that firing orderr I got was wrong
