Im gonna have to agree with Arturbo on this one. Stick with the OEM unit. I am currently building a block that will be pushing ove 400 horses and I am running a blueprinted gsr oil pump. Im not saying that prodrive sucks or nothing but a blueprinted stock one should work fine.

Gonna use an OEM ITR pump on my +/-400whp build. Hope I don't regret it later

650+whp on stock OEM oil pump. Ask Gary Kubo what he thinks of the prodrive oil pump gear.

What about for H22's? Dr. Charles told me awhile ago when he was still with Atomic that the oil pump is the weak point on high horsepower H22's. Anyone know what oil pump people use on their 400+ whp H22's?

There must be a better alternative than OEM. How about the Toda?

I actually met up and talked to Gary Kubo last week, and we actually talked about oil pump and benefit of oil squirters on street cars...and he believes very firmly on stock OEM oil pump.

Now, what does he thinks of ProDrive ? well, I saw a pic that most of you prolly will not like..but again it was on a 650plus HP..

so it's up to you..

I am using stock pump...

I have personally seen 3 oil pumps shatter, one on a car that was tuned perfectly (and not even by me). I have not experienced any problems with a Prodrive unit, except for mine which did not fit correctly. A quick call to Prodrive, and they sent me out another one, which fits fine. I'll put it to you this way - drop a OEM gear on the ground, see what happens.

I think the only thing that could shatter the oil pump gear is if they hit the rev limiter at a high rpm. How offten will a gear hit the floor in real life?

all this talk about oil pumps and mah **** just went out. NO oil pressure, nothing. HEad wasnt getting any oil. made squeeking noise. **** was brand new too. Damn LS OEM pumps. POS ANy LS guys out there if you get a new one get a GSr one. OEM is good as long as its an upgrade from a higher model B series motor.

well lol of course the gear wont be hitting the floor, I was of course using that as an example (and an experience) but if you have a high vibration car (solid motor mounts, worn bushings, etc), or one with wheel hop, or a non harmonic balanced crank pulley (bad bad bad) then you could have this problem, tuned or not. It's the vibration that will cause it to fail. I've seen it too many times, and it can be quite destructive.

I see what you mean john, but I have yet to see an oil pump fail. So until then Im gonna use it. Now those that have seen them fail, then Im all for getting a new gear.

I just got this reply from Vince at GE about stock vs. Prodrive...

"Well, I too speak with Gary Kubo on a regular basis and have heard all
the horror stories of the ProDrive oil pump. I too have felt the effects
of that pump in one of my sponsored cars. I built him a new design of
motor and we tuned it in, took it to the track and right out of the box
on brand new tires and a crappy 60 ft. time, he went 9.28 at 156 mph.
This was awesome. The next pass was to better the first, but the
ProDrive oil pump failed in third gear destroying the motor and ending
my trip all the way to NJ. I recommend nothing but stock now!"

Maybe this helps.

the pic that I reffered to up top, is the pic of the car that vince is talking about...I saw the proDrive gear just shatter into pieces, it took me a good long look to figure out it was an oil pump gear...
