Car doesn't want to start unless I wait a couple minutes?
99 accord 4cly 2dr (auto) 105K
so i think my car developed a mind of it's own and became lazy...
so i wake up for work, drive down to the gas station to get a drink which is about a mile away. run in for about 2 minutes. come out and my car wont start. i do nothing but wait about 5 minutes and boom it starts right up... car isn't over heated or anything it just decides to be lazy... does anyone know why this happens or if it has happened to you? it's been doing this for a couple months and i just ignored it, but it really bothers me now. happens most of the time when the car sits for a short time.

You sure you don't have a leaking injector that's causing the car to flood out? When I had my RX-7 they were known for that issue. If you started them up, drove them for a short time, turned them off, and tried to start it back up it would flood itself out. That would be my first guess anyways.
There is a service bulletin that was issued for this exact problem.
You should try holding the gas pedal about 1/2 way to allow extra air into the cylinders.

don't think its a leaking injector just based of my idle (very smooth). i heard leaking injectors will cause a lumpy idle... but it very well could be. any idea how i would go about checking that?
it could be the main relay... i noticed one time when it was happening my radio said "panel connection error" on it while i was trying to start it up. if you have heard anything about that let me know.
as far as the service bulletin, yeah i've had my car bog a bit before and have done that same thing. but im saying that the car won't even start so holding the pedal half way down wont do anything but flood my engine.
let me know if you guys have any other suggestions while im doing my research, it will be greatly appreciated.

are you serious? since when did you accord have a carb?
can you show everyone this TSB showing to hold your pedal at 50% so it allows more air into the cylinders on this problem?
that not the solution, if its heatsoaked the engine wouldnt turn so i dont think thats the problem, i had the very same problem it was the main fuel relay as already stated, has nothing to do with engine sitting.

did you ever fix the problem. my car is doing the same thing i have a 99 accord ex 6 cyl, its been doing it for over a yr now and its getting worse i was thinking of changing my ecm but its expensive to do that if its not the problem, i think it might b the ecm because i have a check engin light thats been on 4 yrs now for the cat and egr when the car doesnt want to start the check engine light is off but when it wants to start i now it will b4 i crank the key all the way bc the check light comes on with the first click of the key...... if u found the problem please let me know..... thanks
haven't gotten the problem fixed yet, but i gotta take in my moms odyssey for routine maintenance. so when i do that i might just bring in my accord too and ask them what they think is going on. I have my suspicions that it's the main relay but thats only on a hunch and by how it happens. only when i drive the car a short distance and turn it off for a short time does this happen. hopefully ill let you know within the next week or so.
accord99power: as far as TSB i've never heard about it, but i have had my car bog on my before and so it doesn't stall out i will hold down the pedal slightly to keep it from dying. ive only had to do this when i recently install the CAI (i take it out in winter). i think its because the car runs extremely lean at first as the ecu has to adjust to it.
then again appreciate your thoughts. ill update for you guys when it gets fixed.

Mr accord99power you should not infer what you THINK other people say.
I never posted that the car had a carburator.

Hey tragicinc,
I have a 99 Accord Coupe V6 and had the same problem but mine would also die sometimes on the road. I replaced the main relay but still had the problem. I replaced the ignition switch (in the fall) and haven't had a problem since.

so after a lot of investigation and me putting things off the car wont start at all now... i didnt want to spend money on things that i "thought" it could be so i took it into the dealer. turns out it was the main relay. just thought i'd follow up on this post considering all the similar posts about this happening.
so kudos to 90turboEF for a great diagnosis
