Anybody out there with a h22 in there 4th gen
it prolly aint worth it considering the differences in tranny type and weight of the engine, by the time you spend that much money you could have a modded b16 making more horsepower and still handling pretty well. but its up to you

thinking about doing prelude motor in my 91 hatch. wondering if its worth the trouble
Personally, I think that if you have the money to do it, then go for it. It doesn't make as much of a handling differece as people think.
Man just do it...how much auto-x'ing are you going to be doing. That **** would be so sweet.
There are a few people on this board that have no complaints about doing it.

! I know ERICKs racing has a sick B16 but i'm sure that setup cost alot more than most of us have...also my friends car wieghs over 1,800lb with him in it...ok i'll stop rambling...everyone have a wonderful day
I am toying around with the same idea.
i have been contemplating buying a dying hatch, i am not made out of cash so i was thinking of an hf, as i have seen that it is the lightest in stock weight (am i wrong?)
I have a stock 1993 prelude VTEC sitting in the garage....15's are cool i guess, but im wanting something more..
so, what else do i need besides the engine and tranny to swap it in?
a mount kit obviously, any reccomendations? Do i really need to hack and weld up the engine bay? Im guessing space is at a premium, although i have never seen an h22 in a crx, on the net or in person.
What kind of times are we assuming with just the stock motor in?

yes U really do!!! and u have to get a front crossmember(aftermarket) made for the clearance required to do the swap and actually turn the tires! U kinda do have to cut the car up a bit but if u do it right it will not look super hacked
good luck...

also think about the H22 in a 5th gen hatchback. just as light as a 4th gen if you get the VX or CX..a lot more room in the engine bay too. only thing that turned me off was cutting for the shifter cables.

i have been on a 93 CX H22A powered civic and it doesnt understeer like people say it does.... it happens if u go 45+ on a sharp curve.... whos going to be going 50+ on curnvy roads?? any car can loose control..... its fast as hell on the highway and other straight roads... IMO the main porblem its mounting the engine....other than that its worthed the problem fo rhaving a 13 sec car outta the box stock..... piece

ok if everything goes the way i plan ill be starting my 91 crx si h22a project next year bout this time..
like i said if everything comes along as planned:
h22a
i/h/e
nx wet kit- for the strip
hasport mounting kit
a/c
p/s
proper axles
and the best suspension i can buy!
im goin to do this swap the right way and clean. the car will be stock inside and out except for the 17's,wilwood brakes, and a badass suspension setup.
then ima take it out for a spin on,yes, the scca solo2, and see how it does!
dam this is gonna get pricey..

i am kind of debating whether or not to get a rex or a 5th gen civic. I kind of wanted to be different though and go with an ef....also for price reasons.
but, if a 5th gen is just plain easier to drop in an H22, i might go with that. at the end of the day, will it be more trouble/money then its worth to put the motor in the crx, then if i were to get a 5th gen hatch?
I do have a choice, after all, since i havent bought either platform.
i am really not feeling hacking up my car, i believe i could tackle this swap with a friend, but if this is going to be an ordeal maybe i should just save a little more for a 5th gen.
thoughts?

hmm...although i have learned alot (this site has helped alot), i would not venture to say that i know everything about hondas....
so a 5th gen is a bit easier? do i need anything for that swap besides ecu, mounts and engine (obviously)?

my friend did a h22 swap in his 89 hatch 2 years ago. there was no help at that time and people said he was crazy and that it was impossible to do. it helps that he is a metal fabricator so he cut and welded a h22 with stock preluse suspension bolted up. that helped alot for stability because of the weight. his car is a stock metal body, meaning completely stock body. he did need to cut between the headlights so the hood needed pins but it runs great and flys. 5 lug front wheels are cool on a 4th gen!
