My 89 accord gets into fits of not wanting to start, if I let it sit for 10 to 15 min it will start and run fine. some times this will be acomaneiod by the check engine light.
Ideas???

 

I'm thinking fuel pump. Is it cranking and not turning over, or not cranking at all?

 

It will crank over, catch and rev to about 1500 rpm start sputtering then die.

 

that's my guess. also check timing.

well what happens if you give it gas? it could be an air fuel problem, check engine light might be warning you of a messed up air/fuel ratio

 

does it happen after your car has been running for a while? my old car did the same, it would run for a good while but then wouldn't start unless you let it sit. The timing was off I believe.

 

Distributor. If you torque brake, does it stay on? If so, its your distributor.

 

If you've got an LX-i/SE-i, then I'd bet 10 bucks it's your main relay

 

Where do I find this relay?
It is an LX-i

Realy dosn't mater, but it is more frequent when hot

 

Giving it gas has no effect

 

If i put a fuel pressure guage on will that confirm fuel pump?

How do i put quotes on this board? Its hard to tell who I am responding to.

 

as far as the quotes go right under the text box there is a bunch of buttons and then a Quote original post link. Click it and that is how you do it.

 

check the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box.

 

bad main relay, under left side of dash near kick panel.

 

Hey, Hey. I hadsome strange noises from that area when It died alltogether a fewmonths ago and the honda dealer didn't get it fixed completly.
I'll give that a try
