Default collector mod

How many of you are running a DC header for a H22a and have done the 2 1/2" collector mod? I have done it and noticed that I can now spin into 3rd gear instead of a chirp (I know this is a stupid way to measure an increase or not). I haven't done any dyno runs yet, But I also notice the A/F meter running a little leaner in the upper RPM range. The car feels a lot faster IMO... Any additional thoughts?

Was the collector modification pretty straightforward?

Could you please go into detail about what this collector mod is? I have not really been paying a lot of attention lately to new found discoveries. Thanks.

Basically, I had the collector on the B-pipe cut back to almost its widest point and had a piece of 2 1/2" piping welded there instead of the 2". I also had a 2 12" flex pipe added as well. I'll try to post a couple of picture later.

Well you shouldnt be surprised. Its been long well known that ludes love to breathe and performance suffers if they dont.. The DC header is a great header in design however the small collector is what really is holding it back.. Anytime you get more air in you will see a nice increase in performance.. Especially since ludes run rich from factory..

2point6:

I'd like to see some pictures of this mod. I wil surely consider getting this done on my DC header as well.

2poijnt6:

So, its basically cutting all the piping from the flexible piping up until the collector and installing 2.5 inch where the stock collector was and using the 2.5 inch diameter flexible piping?

Regards,
Mark

From what I understand, the header ends in a piping smaller than 2.5 inches. So you cut where the header is converging, and is larger than the end diameter, and just add on a 2.5 inch pipe from there on.

Yes. It doesnt matter what engine you have, a header is a header. If you decrease backpressure, you usually gain horsepower.

Shan, I recommend using a 2.25in collector instead since that would be less likely to reduce low rpm torque from going too big. It would definitley help, but from what I hear, the Kamikaze is better in this respect.

hey man did you just go to the local muffler shop and told them what to do and they did it? and also did they do your o2 sensor as well? also is that a homemade wire extention for your o2 sensor?

also...in the second pic...is that oil above the resonator?

I had a friend at a local exaust shop to the extension. The o2 sensor is stock, but had to be added to the extension.
I am not sure what you mean about oil in the second picture. If there is an oil leak It may have been due to a power steering leak I have been battling... NO more PS. nope all gone.
