Default Supercharge a B18c5-R?

i have a 98' civic, with an integra type r swap. i would like a cheap horsepower gain, $3,000 or so. Is this motor good for a supercharer, turbo? Thanks Never seen it done and can't find info on it.

I personally would not turbocharge or supercharge a stock type-r motor...the compression is pretty high.

you can do it, i would suggest lowering the compression ratio search in the integra forums for turbo type r's theres tons of threads. i was gonna boost a type r motor but i decided to do an h swap instead

a gurl i work with has a turbo type r in a hatch the car is fast as **** and really fun to drive in but sh has a thick head gasket to lower compression .. like every one else says. and if u ahve a 3 k budget then i dont see y it would not be achievable. GL and keep us posted

Try asking in the F/I section.

Either way you go, tuning would be crucial to the life of your motor.

Thats what i was thinking. I know i've seen the B16-r, the civic version supercharged but not the b18. I don't want to really open up the motor if i don't have to. I was wondering if could just slap a supercharger kit on as well as a new head gasket. Just some little supporting mods as well.

I know the turbo kits are pretty good, but it comes down to the same thing. Plus i don't want to be in boost trying to drive down the highway.

Any advice. Maybe some hp gains on motor upgrades? I'm not really sure how to getter any better parts than type R.

I could do either on stock internals? Thats the thing i'm worried about, cause the compression is 11:1 or something. I'm not really sure the compression, i just know its high.
I will be using hondata as well for tuning. Otherwise, i would just like to do minor engine mods.

if u go SC, make sure you use the water cooler setup or you will be disappointed. You cant "slap" anything concerning your motor. I think you need to do a little more research in the FI section and figure out what kind of power band you want, and realize the compression you are dealing with. The b18c5 is such a nice motor, I would just keep it NA.

Only reason I'd say SC is the Atom. But that car has alont of excess enginering to make it what it is.

Personnaly, Id never FI my c5. If i wanted to go FI id retreat to a GSR.
All motor c5 FTW.

What types of mods can i do to the motor? This is only my second time owning a nice civic. I'm really not sure what to do to the motor. The swap was the easy part.

Intake, exhaust done already.
Thanks

there was guy who was local to me and he supercharged his ITR. the gains were not impressive for how much the kit cost him (Jackson kit with the highboost pulley).

he managed to squeeze out approx. 220whp. not to be mean, but i wasn't impressed. can't remember what his wheel tq was, but the curve was nice and linear for the most part.

Yeah but that's 220whp that'll dick-whip a K20.

Opposed to turbo 220whp which won't.

what he said, look it depends on what you want to do with the car. I would never turbo my c5. As for SC i was for a while considering but chose to go na. If your just drag racing then ide say build a na or turbo setup if you want a real man car like a road race i would say get the SC or NA. SC will give you a realy nice powerband on the c5. Sorry getting off track umm... as for F/I if its a usdm ITR you would be fine even without the thicker head gasket for 6-8lbs but if its a jdm i would throw a thicker gasket on and SC. sorry about my puncuation

Yeah, Its a Jdm swap. I've been hearing so many different things on turbos an s/cs. I want to go NA.

If you could tell me what kind of na parts would be good. A good solid all around motor is what i'm looking for.
Right now it isn't my daily driver.
I've heard about Skunk 2 Cams.

Is that right? I don't really know any good aftermarket companies or parts. Like i said this is my first real nice car and motor to mess with.

Thanks Much

dude just lower the compression and turbo it. A supercharged honda is like an old man on viagra, in the end its still crippled haha turbo is where its at

not really. Im sure people said the same thing about B series swaps when they started that. K series have reliable stock power with lots of potential. Overrated? I think not. Over priced? Definetly.

You can't go wrong with the k-series, they are still in thier early stages if you ask me, and have a ton of potential. They are one of the greatest motors honda has produced, with high revving capabilities, and the trans to back it up with power on tap, how are they overrated?

Way expensive yea, but not overrated at all.

Let alone how they respond to bolt-ons and a tune.
