G-mans Build Thread
Hows about a little history about me and my love for honda's....I'm currently deployed to Al Asad Airbase, Iraq....lol....and while I have no time right now to build on my cars I'm working on a decent parts list....I've owned 3 1990 Hatch's, 1 1991 CRX Si and now my newly acquired 1989 Si....
This project build is a 1989 CRX Si W/ A Running D16Y8 Swap .
This CRX is being built to the Official Rules of the "Street Class" in the Redline Time Attack Series
Also to the "Limited FF Class" in the Super Lap Battle Series.

Yes a p28 will work and to do so you'll need to wire up to obd1.
Search and use the FAQs for how too and what's needed. Boomslang.us makes a great harness for it

your stock motor and wiring is a obd0 setup.
The y8 stock is obd2, but it can be run on any of the obds.
Can you contact the old owner and ask him how it's wired? If you can get a picture of the injector that will also help to ID it.

.
I need this done right....but help is needed...i'll get those pics posted on here monday in this thread....buying the p28 is as far as i can go for right now....i guess.

You are, for the most part, right. I would add to what you said by saying it is their solution to not spending cash OR expending some effort. Because if you are either short on cash OR would just rather spend your money on a header, cam, or Christmas presents, you could always do the wiring yourself. The art of OBDI conversions is well established. And plenty of people (myself included) have saved TONS of money by doing it ourselves.
One more thing. If you don't already have a distributer, you will need the D16Y8 distributer. The D16Z6 distributer does not bolt properly to the D16Y8 head. Hoever, the D16Y8 distributer works just fine with the P28 ECU.

is it good if this EF has a hydro-clutch conversion....does it open more doors for me or cause more problems than does good?
also what does a normal Windshield install run....its got that annoying crack right on the driverside right in my view.

hells yeah....good for future expansion...
I will have the pic posted of the harness tomorrow....i believe he said they wired the obd2 harness and obd0 harness together....this spells problems....i think.
well my hunt for vtec continues!

ok heres another dilemma....my buddy was trying to move the CRX next to my talon and said it would not go into gear....no grinding but like 1st gear isn't even there.
now for starters I had this problem way back in the day with my first EF....bought this crappyas* short shifter and then would constantly have to tighten the "Shifter Assembly" end of the linkage every month to get it to shift correctly....
First question would an aftermarket shift linkage provide any significant gains?
Second who would make a aftermarket linkage for a Y8 Swap if anyone even does?
Is the Fidanza Short Shifter a intelligent buy?

So the fidanza short shifter would clean up my having to adjust my shifter assembly every month again?
also who would you recommend for linkage bushings....everyone is telling me energy suspension....but I've used them once and it didnt feel much different or shift tighter.

need some input on this issue....also where can I find a true Fidanza short shifter....not some piece of crap with a sticker.
FYI 89 CRX w/ y8 swap.
So the fidanza short shifter would clean up my having to adjust my shifter assembly every month again?
also who would you recommend for linkage bushings....everyone is telling me energy suspension....but I've used them once and it didnt feel much different or shift tighter.</TD></TR></TABLE>
need some input on this issue....also where can I find a true Fidanza short shifter....not some piece of crap with a sticker.

I also just bought my Apexi VAFC for more assistance in the fuel delivery department....more supporting mods coming soon.
got some quick questions about front lips....what makes the "Chargespeed" lip so expensive (possibly rarity?) and wether this "half-lip" pictured below is a decent looking lip.

Heres a picture of it mounted (pictured in carbon)

I personally dont like the P-1 racing lip. but to each is their own. I really like my lip. the J's racing replica lip . looks more flush. not sure about why chargespeed lip are so expensive, my guess would be the same as yours, rare.

Went and researched the J's Racing "Style" lip....i love the look of it and am sold on it....but I think Im gonna add a little flavor when adding the lip....ive got an idea so i'll go with it and hopfully will come out good....but ill buy two just to have one as backup....
Ok an as for my tire issue....Im not going to run the 205/50's....im stepping down to 205/40's....much more clearance and a decent drop can be achieved....
My BRAND NEW tires are for sale.... http://www.hondamarketplace.co...e=260
I've also purchased my Apexi VAFC....next will be my Adjustable FPR, Fuel Rail, Fuel Pump upgrades....
I still have no idea where im going with this car but I do know I want this motor to Breathe and Flow Freely....
thanks for any input....

Ok well it looks like im due for some schooling in the land of Reflashing/Chipping ECU's....im looking into gettin my ecu reflashed/chipped with Crome.
Please keep in mind this motor has been built....I have reciepts/pictures of the build from the previous owner....that is also being covered in this thread....im improving on fuel delivery currently....the VAFC IS ALREADY HERE....LOL....LESS THAN 1 DAY SHIPPING....im deciding on my Fuel Rail as I type this.
Well on the fact of not knowing "jack" about reflashing/chipping ECU's....I've got a couple of questions to ask of you guys on here....please try to keep it around 2nd grade for me...lol j/k
1. What is a "Base Map" or "Map"?
What i've come to understand it as is a set state of functions pre-loaded into a computer or chip/ecu or other source of memory to run the motor....hope im close.
2. Is it possible to store or save multiple "Maps - Base Maps"....maybe have one set for fuel economy/Daily Driving....and one set for Track use?
Once again something I've heard....hope im getting somewhere with this
3. Is it possible to change "Maps - Base Maps" on the go....say you pull over and can change to a different "Map - Base Map" with a laptop or another similar device?
this question is only valid if question 2 is true.
4. What are the Major Differences in Hondata and Crome?
Thinking adjustability....but once again im probably off....
Please keep in mind that my answers were only what I've come to understand and from me are in no way what I think are FACTS!!!!
I've been doing some reading on hondata's website....also been searching/reading Wikipedia on Reflashing/Chipping....been doing some searching/reading here on HT also.
Im just looking for a little guidance, and a cup of coffee because its gonna be a long nite....thanks for any help!
