Default 2007 Civic Si -Clutch dead already :-/

I have only had this car since April of 07 and at 20,000 the clutch is dead. Going down the fourlane at 45mph I tried to shift gears and it wouldnt go, not do a darned thing. I drive this car from home to work and the kids to school.

I bought a Honda for its reliability I dont ride the clutch or anything, no down shifting..Honda tells me $1600 to fix my car! What is up with this..Its not like Im driving my car hard.. What should I expect to pay for labor? I looked at some of the clutch kits and even high end ones are like $250-300...

Is it because Im a girl calling or is this typ. dealership crap going for the $$$.

Thanks for any help,
Becca

How did you kill your clutch in 20K miles? Did you know how to drive a stick before you got the car?

Either the clutch was defective or you rode that clutch hard. Most clutches go longer than 20k miles unless you beat on it. Get the dealership to tear it down and see what was the cause was.

+1

I traded in my Si with 27k on it and ZERO engagement issues

Been to the track 3 times
been Auto Crossing once
Driving to florida and back
Drove hard everyday ( but properly)
and supercharged for about 8k

so this wasn't honda reliability.... this was driver error.

~$500 for parts. Somone may be able to tell you how many hours honda charges for install.

I love how some of you bash her, tells her it cant be the car since they havent had the problem and it cant be Honda reliability... States how it must be her driving even though she states she drives the car properly... Then when the dealer finds that it is a problem with the car no one apologises for being so damn rude...

Who was being rude to her? there are 100's of drivers here exceeding 20k on their Si's.... along with heavily modded ones...... and tech's from dealerships

and noone has posted (EVER) there being a flywheel recall or issue.

Car damage cannot be assessed on the internet without physically seeing a vehicle.
The consensus of users just post up the experiences they have had in hopes they fall into that category.

But thanks for the concern.

Someone recommended this site to me this morning actually, that's how I got here. I appreciate the feedback. Sorry I'm not more knowledgable about cars. That's why I was here asking questions.

just in case you were wondering

part 2 is the flywheel. it connects the clutch and driveline to the engine.

Glad you got it fixed. If you could ask the dealer what was wrong with it, you'd be satisfying my (and probably a few others on here) curiosity.

I had a similar story here months ago. My clutch died at 30k and I never beat my car, nor did I ride the clutch. I got into an ugly dispute with Honda and filed a BBB claim with them. they wanted 1450+ tax for the total repirs. A week before arbitration, Honda caved and I ended up paying only $465 for all parts and labor.

I'll let you all know when I go to pick it up today. I wish I knew more about cars so I didn't have to ask so many questions.

BTW thanks for the diagram it puts some things into perspective.

i was in a similar situation a few months back and had to change my clutch. car had under 11k miles and i know damn well it wasn't my "driver error" as i don't ride my clutch and it wasn't my first stick car either. the clutch ended up still being good but had damage that caused it to slip. in the end the stealership said it was my fault and wanted to rape me by charging $1400+ for the install and new clutch. i said expletive that and bought an aftermarket clutch with about 10k miles almost on it and still pulling hard. seen many cases of these clutches going out, and i know all of them are not driver error.

anyways, lucky you that the stealership is going to fix it, wish i could have been as lucky

*unsolicited devils advocacy*

I'm thinkin the banned person was saying, everyone here is like, "driver error driver error, impossible for honda parts to fail that quickly, driver error.... oh, its the flywheel, ok cool".

This is a concretely "tech" site, people should be more open minded.
