SleepinEP3's SSR restoration thread.... 30+ pics
this thread is about my restoration, more then showing off my work the purpose is to show what process[es] i used to acheive my results. i tried to take as many pics as possible but after writing this i guess i could have taken more...
i searched all over and tried to restore these wheels using the best, most durable options that i had available to me.
no one in HI anodizes or i would have chosen to re-anodize the lips as it not only protects and shines but also strengthens the aluminum[hard shell, think m&m's].
i will be more then happy to answer any questions as i know im probably leaving out some info.
the wheels are SSR Formula Mesh, wanted them since before i could drive....9 yrs later....
props:
H-T ssr thread heads for showing me anything is attain-able
toyomatt  , Joji and all of wheelchoice= A+ service.
purchased Jan.07 from HT member talli_tx_dc2 "theres one with a dent and one had a crack repaired""
17x7 +38 F
17x8 +38 R

difference in lip/barrel

upon closer inspection, thank god it was on a 7"
one of the 17x7's

took them apart

decided to find 2 new wheels since the 7's needed too much work. after 6 months of searching...

Wheel Choice FTMFW.

so the new "complete" set

what else was in the box???

next step polish the lips.
theyre anodized clear from the factory, need to remove the anodize...

LYE

plus warm water

let simmer for about 20 minutes

00 steel wool while its wet

almost done

anodized VS. stripped.

raw aluminum

wet sanded up to 2500grit then mothers polish. all by hand.
sent to the powdercoater to sandblast/powder the centers.
so maybe $2000 and 8 months later

had the lips powdercoated clear as well

and the fun begins...

then came new BBS valve stems, couldnt find ssr's-> more-japan's communication skills suck

and finally a set of federal 595's. pretty decent in the sunny 100 miles ive driven. settled on 215/40/17
Thanks for looking
