Default Lightened flywheel question.

Who in here has a lightened flywheel and compared to your stock flywheel, how much faster does it actually rev to the higher RPM's? If it worth the $300 or not? I mean is the difference very noticable or just a little?

To add to this question...how many people have lightened their stock flywheel? is this a bad practise (too weak?)

Uhh I don't think it should cost 300 to lighten your stock flywheel. It only cost 100 cdn for my brothers. It revs a bit faster, and if you have to machine it anyway, it's probably worth it. Just make sure it gets balanced as well.

yeh you're probably right... I don't think a 300 dollar US flywheel is worth it though. Save the money for nitrous

Has anyone had trouble with a stock flywheel that has been lightened? Does it make it too weak? How much can you remove safely?

i have a lightened stock flywheel. i am a bad person to ask about this though as i didn't remove all that much weight from it. i probably took a pound or 2 off it. i never weighed it as i really didn't care that much.

i rebuilt my bottom end, so when i had everything balanced i had them take a little off the outer edge of the flywheel.

I would go with cutting down your stock flywheel its alot cheaper. I have a first gen Si. I think stock was about 14.5 lbs and it has been cut down just under 8 lbs. I did this 4 years ago and have had no problems and its been resurfaced twice for new clutches. I autocross and hillclimb and the acceleration is noticable. Also it revs very quick to help match rpms when down shifting fast.
