Default Finally, JDM 4-1/Renault Cat/Hytech Exhaust Installed! Old Setups: Comptech 4-2-1, Comptech/OEM Exha

HT-

EDIT: got the video uploaded: http://video.google.com/videop...hl=en
thanks to the wife for hopping in the car.

Old Exhaust Setups:
1. Comptech B-pipe and OEM Axle-back …terrible picture, but you know what it looks like.

2. Comptech B-pipe and Comptech Axle-back

Old Header Setup:
Comptech 4-2-1

Summer Tire Setup:
CW OEMs with Falken Azenis 615s:

NEW SETUP:
JDM 4-1 Header with Renault Cat/Hytech Cat-back

JDM 4-1:

Before with an 8 inch gap between the cat and the header… yeah, it’s not a great picture:

The fix:
Welded in an 8 inch pipe to move the cat up… yeah, bad picture angle:

Gaskets with 2 spring bolts:

With the FEW shops I could have gone to, I want to thank the owner, Brendan, of the Meineke off 119th and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS for hooking me up and a very reasonable quote!!!

Side shot:

Underside: … yeah, I know it’s dirty.

Winter Tire Setup:
GM OEMs with Falken RT-512s

… and a tribute to my old DB8... R.I.P., you served me well :

… the heart of this, a b18c5, is now the heart of Bradstard’s Type R… woo, hoo!

Tire Switch: the Falken 512s and the Azenis 615 are TOTALLY different tires. One’s an all-season tire. The other is a high performance summer tire. The 512 is a squirmy bang for the buck tire. The 615s were just absolutely really crisp and sticky… you all know the story.

Header/Exhaust Switch: I can’t comment on real performance yet as I haven’t brought it out on the track yet, but from the sound and feel of it, it’s NIGHT AND DAY... worth every darn penny i spent on the setup!!!

As for the headers: The Comptech 4-2-1 was just really restricting as you can tell. The JDM 4-1 allows the engine to breathe SO much easier. The engine just sounds TOTALLY different! There is a definite “growl” with the engine.

As for the exhausts: I loved the look and performance of the OEM axle back. I could do without the Comptech axle-back… so much so that I switched back to the OEM unit and sold the Comptech unit. It sounded alright, but now I really know what people mean when they say the Comptech units drone. It’s low and all, but does drone compared to the OEM and Hytech Units. I have to mention that I had one on my DB8 and I loved it though for the four door.

…as for the Renault Cat/Hytech Cat-back… man, I love this unit combined with the JDM 4-1 header. The car sounds just really nice. A little louder than OEM at idle, screams at VTEC though I’ve only been in VTEC only a few times since the installation. I think the way the car sounds and drives now is how Honda should/meant to have built the R to sound like from the factory.

With these changes, I’ve fallen in love again with my R. I’ve started to reconsider my intent to sell the R before I start more grad school this coming fall. We’ll see what happens.

See if you can find the OEM heat shield for the JDM header - nice and stealthy

Looks good, I think just looking at the exhaust from the back the Hytech looks a lot better than the Comptech and it makes more power so for the changes

Any reason you chose the JDM 4-1 over something higher-end?

one word: budget. really, if i could get a hytech unit for cheap like ~500 bucks, i would go that route, but they're few and far between. i thought about other units, too, but after a while, i said "what the hell, i want to move on."

yeah, i've been looking for one that's... budget priced.

if i take you literally, i wish i could say i'm going to college... cause college was oh so fun. since then, i've gone on to grad school and i'm going back to... law school. but if you're just saying i've "manned up," with this setup, then yes i have indeed.

everyone, thanks for the comments. and thank you all who helped with my incessant questions!!! and brad, enjoy that engine!

OP- Just curious how long it took you to get that Hytech cat-back exhaust? I talked to John the other day via email, asked him the price etc, he wrote me back with the info explaining how busy he was etc, I said I understood which is why I wanted to order at this time of year when things were slower etc and asked him what he wanted from me to order and I never heard anything back from him... I was like wow...guess he doesn't want my business...

Yes I read about your experience in another post. I figured I would try to contact John to order one as some people have reported good and bad experiences with him. I guess you can chalk my experience up in the negative column as well. I'm not going to pursue him, if he doesn't want to take my order/money I will and am looking elsewhere.

Someone else was going to look into your order for you from here, I take it they didn't have much luck either?

Nope, not at all. Oh well, the car is pretty much up for winter and if I get it, GREAT. If not I am sure I can find a suitable alternative.

The OP got his used off the forums here BTW. I should have jumped on it.

I want a Hytech exhaust to mate up to my Hytech header. If someone finds the mother load of exhausts, please clue me in as well.

Lookin' good Jomama. (if you ever decide to get rid of that exhaust, for ANY reason... let me know. Besides, I'm local to you. LOL)

hell, yeah...

guys, guys... calm down, this exhaust ain't going anywhere really soon. i bought mine used off of here for one hell of a deal. like walker111 stated, it's better to just buy the hytech units used. good luck to all of you, it's definitely worth the wait.
