Are 5 lug brakes worth it? *opinions wanted*
So currently I own a 99' Civic Si. Stock brakes (with the rear disc). I know there's ways to upgrade the brakes to ITR / CTR status while keeping the 4 lug (re-drilled front 11.1" rotors and 10.2" 02-03 si rotors in the rear). I want to stay 4 lug to keep the rims I have now, so 5 lug isn't an option. I have 23mm rear sway and 26mm front sway. It's a daily driver and used for some spirited canyon runs / auto-x. My question is, are the type-r brakes worth it / needed? Or will the stock brakes suffice for what I'm doing with some good / pads rotors?
Just want some opinions on whether it'd be money well spent or if I should use it elsewhere.

Using 92-96 Prelude VTEC rotors (redrilled) and Prelude VTEC/ITR calipers, you can have the same brakes but 4-lug.

I'm sure you can get the same braking power for 1/4 of the price. And a lot less hassle.

in my opinion its more of a cosmetic issue than actual performance. Unless you were talking about the bigger brakes and caliper for stopping power then thats another story,. But some would argue that 5 lugs is safer. haha **Shrugs**
I actually already know about the front setup. Thats what im asking, is it worth it to do the 4 lug type r brakes, or just leave the em1 brakes (for my application listed above)?
Should I put out the dough, or is it not worth it and money can be better spent?

the EM1 stock brake setup is well off, get some quality rotors (doesnt have to be drilled/slotted) with good pads and brake hoses. If your really serious about upgrading brakes then i would run 98-01 accord calipers up front and rsx/ep3 rear cailper/rotors in the rear.

thats what im asking. Should I be serious about them?
Here's a better way of putting it. The 23mm rear sway compared to the 13mm rear sway makes a VERY distinct difference and will affect the outcome of auto-x type events. I'm saying, if you compare em1 brakes to type-r brakes, are they worth the money to get or will the stock em1 brakes suffice for track use?

jesus christ man! how can ppl tell u if its needed or not. They dont know how u are driving in these events?! If your fading or not getting enough stopping power then upgrade. Y not try ur car out first then decide if its needed or not? Most of the time all u really need is a good rotor and some quality pads.
Good point.
I know it's not the same but I have ask rota if the car needs bigger brakes? He say no. the car stops fine from 146mph. All we've done is Brembo sloted blanks and a good pad.
Granted he's not stopping over and over. But the brakes have to work the First time for him. The engine gets turned off after he hits the brakes.

PM BrakeExpert. I am sure he has sold lots of redrilled rotors and can attest to the quality.

Yeah, look at me hard park with my 5-lug.

Yes it is worth it if you track your car. Since you just do autocross and stupid canyon runs, just go with the 4-lug big brake DIY deal. Check with the SCCA rules though. 5-lug gets you an auto boot to SM, I'm guessing the 4-lug big brake DIY deal does the same.
Good pads and tires should be good enough for you.

lol.
Big brakes, beefier hubs, not having to pit in if you brake a stud on track, ready to use rotors available less than 30 minutes away from most any track in the country... But I'm one of the people who doesn't give a damn what my car looks like, so I digress.

Maybe just cheaper

Ditto. The ITR brakes are awesome. The 5th lug is a PITA, but the brakes behind them are nice.
