Dude! One day out of the blue, both front doors on my 90 Accord LX won't unlock or open! The key won't work, the power door locks won't work( starts tripping repeatedly trying to unlock by itself for about 5 seconds ) and the inside lock **** won't lift up all the way( only moves about half way up ).

Fortunately the front window was down and I could get the rear door open! Now I have to leave my window down or doors unlocked everywhere I go or else I can't get into the car!

I tore the inside panel open on the front door and still cannot see anyway to get this door open so I can fix or replace the door lock mechanism without destroying the body work!

Does anyone know of a way to get this door open? non destructively???

NOTE: It has a power door lock servo built right into the latching mechansim. Does anyone have a factory manual with diagram of this mechanism they can email a scan of to me???

You might of shorted something out in the motor....

You should be able to take the motor off the driver side and work w/the key for
now till you find out what's going on.....

 

on my car....91lx coupe...even tho the locks are power, when you turn the key, it manually unlocks the door. My power locks don't work at all, but i can still unlock both doors with the key

 

Well! I couldn't take it anymore, had to use BRUTE FORCE! Equipped with a brand new Prybar set, makita drill, makita reciprocating saw, hammer and chisel, I went to work on this SOB. I pulled the seat out to make room. I pulled the door cover off with the door still shut breaking some of the plastic tabs, then I started drilling and cutting at the mounting screws from the back side. ( OH I took out the window first so as not to break it ). Then I used chisel and hammer and prybar to bend back the metal backing of the latch and break out the plastic body. After about 1hour the thing was completely demolished from the inside of the door. I got a look at how the mechanism locks and it was still locked! I rotated the locking cam to free the latch and the door popped open!

It was a bitch and it got fucked by me today! I don't take this **** from stupid ******* door latches. Then I put in a new latch and all is well. Something was just plain defective on that old latch. Some of the inside door panel sheet metal got bent up and mangled a bit from the prying but a little hammering straightened it back out. Whole project took about 2 hours.

I'm a happy camper for now. Next I have to do the driverside

Well, I was thinking about this "JOB" just a minute before reading your reply and well... I thought of a better way!

When I fixed this, I was at a friends house with just the tools I had in my back of the trunk.

I recall when I was having trouble fitting the drill and saw inside the door I said "My dremel tool or die grinder with cutoff wheel or rotary file bit would work alot better!" and I just remembered that just a minute ago.

I recommend if anyone has to goto this extent to remove a door latch from a door that won't open, they should use a die grinder with cutoff wheel and other grinding bits, even drilling. That combined with some prying and hammering will get it out cleaner and faster.
