Rear bearing/hub removal....need some advice
Ok, I dont know how many of you have removed your rear hub/bearing assembly, but for those that have, I'd like to know if you have had the problem I am having. I got my right rear hub off without a problem. But when I went to take the left one off, the hub came out fine but the inner bearing stayed stuck to the spindle. I have been beating the hell out of it for the last day and the damn thing hasnt moved. I have used a penetrating lubricant and many common tools and now I'm getting pissed! This should be an easy bolt on affair. If anypne else has encountered this, please lend me some advice. I am about to try and heat the bearing up and see if that will do anything.
I assume the bearing inserts into the hub and is secured by a set of bolts. If i am wrong let me know...
However, secure the hub somehow, either by putting it back in the car in a vice, etc, etc. Soak it with lube, and then beat on the bearing with a BFH+Chisel/Big farking drift on the sides of the hub and rotate the bearing inside the hub, instead of pounding it out.. This should break it free with 3-4 smacks of the BFH.

Well, I am not trying to save the bearings that are in the hub. I bought new hubs and they come with bearings in them. So all I am trying to do is remove the inner bearing that is still stuck on the car. When I removed the hub, the outer bearing came off with the hub, but the inner stuck itself to the spindle.
Oh, and the bearings are pressed into the hub. No bolts hold them in. All that holds the hub on it a 32mm nut. The car is an 88 CRX Si by the way

yes, this has happened to me. 95 Civic DX with drum rear brakes after a 1 hour long race at Nazareth. the right rear wheel "wub wub wub wubbed" all the way home!
bought the new hub and took off the old one. the inner bearing race was stuck to the spindle. after about 1 hour of hammering and chisleing it came off. be super careful not to damage the spindle, though.
good luck,
Todd

i'm amazed people separate the hub from the bearing without splitting the races sometimes.
to get the bearing inner race off, i made some 'tools', aluminum spacers etc to line up a puller, slotted the sides of the inner race with a die grinder, used a 2 prong puller on it, and hit it with a MAP Torch. Will come off easy as pie then.
regards.
