Default Headers.. So many to choose from...

Ok so i just purchased a 2000 ITR Cat-back exhaust straight from the dealer and the guy there told me that if i wanted to get headers that my main choices would be between:

Stock USDM ITR headers
or
DC Headers(because carb legal)

When i asked him about the JDM ITR headers he said that the a pipe would be too low and possibly hit the ground while i was driving.

I was also curious about ceramic and stainless steel headers and he said that ceramic coating is to lower the heat retention of the metal and stainless was just for looks.

So! Coming from that.. does anyone have experience in purchasing headers for a an integra? Doesn't matter what kind. What problems you might have run into or anything like that? And can you install them at home.. or does it have to be done at a shop? Thanks for all your help

Mine is a 2000 LS and just for info, the headers need to have a 2.25 collector to fit my cat. Any kind of feedback will help.

If you're trying to stay C.A.R.B. legal, then your choices are relatively limited. DC Sports and Greddy are decent, and if you can find a Comptech header, that would be a nice choice.

You'll probably only need one header. Jokes aside, you might as well upgrade to a high flow cat if while you are doing so much work to your exhaust. The type r cat isn't too expensive and that has 2.5 collectors. the larger diameter is better for a N/A car. That being said look around there are many different companies that make a header for an integra. I got a megan for 200$, fitment was great and they stand behind their product.

The type r cat from the factory is $938 i checked. and the whole system is 2.25"...

From what i hear megan isn't too great

Does anyone else have any experience? And yes i probably will be leaning towards the C.A.R.B. legal side of things

get either DC or greddy if your leaning toward C.A.R.B

there both good products. both around the same price as well.

I have a 95 Gsr and just instaled some DC headers. They fit perfect and sound good. You should be able to do them in a garage. It would help a lot to have someone to help you though. Oh and go with the ceramic.

The USDM cat has a 2.25" collector. The JDM ITR cat has a 2.5" collector.

It's actually 2.0", which is the same as the other USDM Integra models.

ooh!!! the dealer probibly charged you an arm and a leg!! you could have gone with a used JDM itr exhaust and thats all 2.5 in and that would have fit nicely with a itr header.

as far as the header honda designed the header so each pipe is NOT stacked on top of another(as dc, powercore and most other replica type-r headers) as it journeys under the oilpan to the collector of 2.5 in.(on the jdm model).. as far as dc they crack at the welds im guessing the HAZ (heat affected zone) was indeed affected and later cracked on my header and most everyonelsess..lol but since your are in cali dc and edelbroc (spelling?) could be options.. but o.e. is never a bad route

As Padawan said above, Comptech makes a pretty nice header. Or they did, some of their ex-employees are in the process of reopening the company. You can still probably find a used one or new overstock for the time being, but they aren't exactly cheap. They are carb exempt though. My boss got a JG edelbrock header and welded the carb exempt plate to it from a Comptech header. It is now "legal". It even passed at the referee in California, pretty surprising.

I believe most, if not all headers for 90-93 Integra headers are going to be 2 piece 4-2-1 designs since the single piece ones are pretty much impossible to put in with the subframe in the way. I could be mistaken, those are just my observations from looking around a little bit. I have had to order one before for a 92 teg but I haven't owned one.

If its already smogged just buy an ebay header, I havnt had any issues with my ss ebay header. And you can make your own carb plate at petco with a dog tag and have a muffler shop tac weld it on for you patna! trim the edges though.

4-2-1 makes better low end, 4-1 makes better high end, in theory.
