he sent a b16a 1999 civic si engine....
it arrived no VIN TAGS!!!
he claims he bought it from someone \, never saw it....
NO LSD with tranny like paid for
ECU had no vin number on it...neither did the tranny but hey
injectors were OBD1.....
harness did not plug into the ecu
axels were off of an abs model so this wasn't a complete swap from a 99 si
engine looked like it had beed to hell and back....
hmmmm....his name is MARK and he is from quebec
over20 calls to him in one week to see where refund was....never returned call
told him the day we got the engine swap we wanted the money back....he spent it already....finally got the money after skipping mark and talking directly to the shop he sold it too...no i did NOT tell him bout all of this....MARK should have....
any question please IM me!! i will post pics of the vin tags not being there with the date we received the engine!!!!!!!! will be a week before dOOd with camera gets back......i will keep this at the top.....

OT but on topic:

How do we protect ourselves agains this stuff, generally everything is word contracts and so forth. Is there any legal way to protect this because these types of transactions are not secure, nor i dont think our forums for selling stuff classify as a legit buisness.

2 words: Fax Machine....

Write up a contract between the two parties on their letterhead and have them sign it agreeing to the price and exactly what you will be getting. Include everything down to the smallest part.

If someone doesn't fulfill there end of the bargain, you then have a legal claim that is on paper. You can go to almost any grocery store or Kinko's and have something faxed for you for a buck or two.

 

Chad please post a link to this in the Best Buys forum as well so that people over there can see this as well! When he first came on here I had requested some info and photos of some stuff and he never responded.

first off...i wasn't going to post anything on the web until i got the money back....cause if i went around bad mouthing him he definateely wasn't going to return the money!!!! sooo....that's wwhy i told people to im me personally....and i would tell them!!

 

To think I almost bought a motor from his ***. Thank God.

 

Although I have spoken to Mark on numerous occasions I've never bought anything from him yet. He always seems nice and a good guy to work with. About the legal papers... that would be a great idea but I think that Escrow is the way to go from now on, people! Either that or COD. If the vendor doesnt agree to that they I say stay clear!

Just my 2¢. I'll try to contact Mark and get his thoughts on this. Sorry to hear about your dilemma.

This is precisely why there NEEDS to be THOROUGH back ground checking done for any "business" that starts posting items for sale, especially items like motors, which could easily be stolen parts. Note to the buyers, too, is that when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Chad, glad you got your money back. You should have just gotten the B16B longblock from me!!!!

When you buy a new motor or trans from Acura (I'm pretty sure) it has no Vin numbers. I have 2 friends 1 bought a ITR trans ,the other bought a ITR motor.
Both came from Acura and neather had Vin numbers. The question is if they ever sell how can they prove they are not stolden?? And what does the Dealership do when they replace with new parts switch vin plates? Just curious.

Sorry to here what happed. Been looking for a motor myself and been afraid to buy sight unseen. Looks like all this trading over the internet they would email some pics before you buy it.
