so i picked up a d16z6 longblock for $35, thanks to whip factory!
story: so yesterday morning, whip factory of plainfield illinois was clearing out their used parts because they moved to a new location down the street. we paid $35 per person to enter and grab as many things we want as long as we can take it out with our two hands. so i walk in there and find myself a little z6 sitting there all alone. that was the first thing i went to.
first thing is first. im a noob when it comes to motors. never done a motor swap. so whole reason i picked this baby up is so i can learn to work on a motor and one day do my own motor swap. i plan on ripping the whole motor off part by part and finding out what everything is.
but as to my tech questions:
1. i would like to know what im missing from this motor besides the transmission?
2. which of the following parts am i missing that you can see from the picture?
3. how can i tell or find out if this motor is still good? if its not leaking oil or blown? or does it require me to take things apart to find out?
4. how much do these motors go for?
5. should there be something i should learn before i start ripping this motor apart? any threads/advice for beginners who wants to rip out a motor?

damn, you lucky bastard. Good for you
I wonder what shape the motor is in though. What other kind of stuff was in there? And how did you carry that **** out with your two hands?
A couple answers to your questions
There worth around $300-400, depending on where you go and mileage
Do a leak down test and compression test to see what shape the motor is in.
And before you start ripping **** apart, get a HELMS manual. Its what the stealership uses when they work on your car.

looks like a painted and sticked z6 mani to me. and yea you got a hell of a deal. to me it looks like your missing, a flywheel and clutch, injectors, fuel rail, distributor, cam gear, and water pump from what i can see. as for rippin it apart, talk to someone about the in's and out's of rebuilding a motor. theres some things you want to replace when you take them off like head studs and bearing, gaskets, ect. since you got it for so cheap i would take as much time as it takes you to rebuild and learn how to do it right. and with the right parts, or maybe a bolt on turbo kit, you can make very good power with that engine. i have one with a lot of bolt ons, no turbo runnin a 15.2 in teh quarter mile. good find tho. and good luck.
i think im going to search for an eg hatch. then rip both motors out and put whatever is best into one. it'd be a great beater
lol, good luck findin an eg hatch with a z6 in it. youd be better to look for an eg coupe ex. the hatches with z6's are pretty rare. but deff a good idea. have an eg coupe with a blown z6 right now if you just wanna get rid of the motor
. lol
. lol

Haha...
That is a nice pick up right there. The painted block is killing my eyes, but it seems like a fun project. If it were me, I would rip that thing apart... maybe even have the block bead blasted. *shrugs*
