Well a friend and I started to remove some of the tar yesterday, went out and got about 40 Lbs of dry ice. We did most of the front, but it was an ozone warning day yesterday and we started feeling tired.
So today we start again, and it seems some of the tar just doesnt want to come up. So people you have stripped out their front tar (this is a VX), any tips. I need to buy more dry ice, but i have no money for it. Also how long do you usually keep the Dry Ice on the tar before removing?
And the black thing behind the pedal assembly - do you have to remove the dash to take that black thingy out to get to more tar? Ahh the joys of removing tar..

used Dry Ice, that crap still didnt want to come up. There was some sort of yellow substance holding it down. Im using a chisel and hammer, and it still isnt coming out that well. I think i need more dry ice...
I got mine out with a blowtorch, only problem was, I melted the glue around those plug this, and the plugs themselves STILL have tar on them. The other thing I cant figure out, is how to get the tar off that glue seam in front of the firewall mat, without killing the glue itself..

heres the secret...crush the dry and with alcohol (slushy) and apply to tar.....you'll see
Try using lighter fluid. Don't laugh, I'm serious. When you are done, be sure to wipe up with soap and water.
the way we took all the tar out of my friends crx was by getting a chisel and a hammer and just banging it all out.. we did this for like a week in autoshop class it was pretty fun haha. but yeah it worked well with a chisel and a hammer just hitting it out.
Sup ht peeps
I did mine in just one afternoon with dry ice, mallet, and chisel and worked out fine .

on this pic you'll see that there is still some stubborn tar left from the dry ice. So I used (Goof Off Stain Remover) and A scouring pad and the stains literally lifted off, just follow the directions on the bottle.

I used a painters brush and brushed Goof Off on the stain and waited for a minute, after that I used the scouring pad and scrubbed until it was clean.
here's the finished result

that yellowish crap actually holds these drain plugs to the floor panels ,that is why I just left it alone.

this is a 10 gallon bucket full of tar
My coupe is now 22 lbs lighter
hope this helps
