Default D-Rob's S2000 Cluster-Into-'98-Civic-Coupe Project *Pix0rs*

UPDATED PICS OF FINISHED PRODUCT ON PAGE 3.

For a couple months now, I've been researching the in's-and-outs of installing an AP1 S2000 cluster in the coupe. Back in late April, I stumbled across a mint cluster on eBay for a mere $150, so I snatched it up.

The only drawback to that 'deal' was that I did not receive the connectors off the back.

So, after a couple more months of searching, and posting several 'WTB' threads, I came to realize no one wanted to part out the plugs from a cluster sale. This left me in a problematic situation, so to speak.

Therefore, instead of wasting even more time searching for plugs, my father came up with the idea of desoldering the connectors off the PC board, and wiring directly to it, utilizing the diagrams posted on DSCustoms.com ('bigcalidave' here on H-T). Also, another goal was to be able to switch in between the S2000 cluster, and a factory Civic cluster with minimal headache. The wiring from the PC board at the cluster was then made into a four-plug harness using connectors/pins picked up from RadioShack, and factory S2000 wiring colors were imitated using spare engine harnesses we had laying around.

Here's how she looks.

The new harness.

Factory plugs still intact, and functional.

Test-fit with parking lights off.

Lights on.

The bezel that is currently in the works...

The bezel should be done in the next couple days.

I'll post pictures when I get home from the beach early next week of the completed project installed.

Thanks!
- Derek

does the actual cluster bolt right up? I want to get a new cluster so that I can actually have a tach, and I like how this one looks, but I would probably never figure it out.

Perhaps we could work something out since you are rather local? Just a proposition, nothing concrete.

It does not 'bolt-in,' nor does it simply wire-up and work.

I still have yet to purchase the speedometer multiplier. That runs $170.

The ECT gauge also requires a special converter = $75.

Right now, the only gauges that are functional are the tachometer and fuel.

Does anyone know if these are avaliable yet? They've been out of stock forever.

I'm pretty sure he changed the design slightly, so that pushed production back a ways.

I'll be placing my order to be put on the list very shortly. In the meantime, I don't drive my car very far, so I don't really care about the speedo.

I only live 3 minutes from work, and drive mostly back roads, or around town.

would be cool. but it wouldn't be a good idea if you can't even get the speedometer multiplier. All of his customers would be getting tickets.
