Default Pioneer AVIC-D3 receiver

I am thinking about purchasing the pioneer AVIC-D3 receiver for my '07 Si coupe. I did not get the honda nav system so I know I will have to get the double din dash panel to install the pioneer deck. Has anyone installed an aftermarket in-dash nav unit? How well does it work out? Is there somewhere I can purchase the double din panel other than ebay? Is there a way to link the steering wheel controls to the new receiver so that they can still be used? Can the deck be set up so that it will play video while the car is in motion? I know that's a lot of questions, but I've never installed an aftermarket stereo in a car before (didn't think it worth it in my last car...'95 taurus with 265,000 miles). Any pics would be appreciated as well.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-O...VICD3

click on installation details...
or
just go here...

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-O...1561B

a few guys here use aftermarket NAV and I think someone even uses the pioneer you're looking at.. I'm sure somone can chime in with more info

"and you also have the option of wiring the AVIC-D3 into your steering wheel controls for a convenient, factory feel."
-from the product description

also from product description:
"Memory Navi Mode: When the DVD Map Disc is inserted, you can store the map data into the internal memory of the navigation system. If the map disc is removed, navigation is performed by using data in the memory. In the Memory Navi mode, you can play a music CD or DVD Video on the navigation system while navigating at the same time. Some functions are restricted in the Memory Navi mode, and you may need to reinsert the DVD Map Disc to use those functions"

so you should be able to use steering wheel controls and watch DVDs even while navigating from saved data

go to honda they sell the double din dash kit used for the factory navi there. you will be able to install the D3 using it and it will look better than those cheap plastic kits. its around 100 bucks but its worth it. it also comes with metal mounting hardware and not plastic.

I wouldnt get the D3 just for the fact when you are using the GPS portion of the system you need to use the GPS DVD.When you are using that you cant play a cd. I would get the AVIC-Z2. which has a built in 30 gig hard drive which you can download the GPS CD on so you can play cds at the same time.

Hey dude, ok...

#1 Go to http://www.avic411.com which will tell you EVERYTHING to do with the D3 install (bypass, custom backgrounds, etc...)

#2 I put a D3 in my 07 Si 4dr. and I LOVE IT. It is definitly highly recommended.

#3 The whole thing about the D3 only having once disc slot for the Nav. disc and trying to listen to CD's or watch DVD's isn't that big of a deal if you have an I-Pod. You can watch all the videos on your I-Pod and the I-Pod software that pioneer made for the D3 is AMAZING.

#4 I have put in at least 15 D3's in many cars and my Si is definitly one of the best looking. The dash kit you can get from Scosche is really nice, the color match is perfect and overall fitting of the kit is flawless. (Not to mention the VSS is in the factory radio harness)

#5 If you shoot me your e-mail I will definitly send you some pics of the D3 installed... but in my opinion the D3 is an excellent choice

go read about the D3, I think you are misinformed about it's capabilities.

You must first set the route on the D3 and upon doing that you can remove the navigation disc and put something else in. If you want to change the route or do anything with it, you have to put the DVD back in.

Easiest solution is: http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html

by setting the route and removing the navigation disc, you are entering Memory Navi Mode... isn't that what I already posted about?

Look into the Kenwood DNX7100. Best of both worlds. No DVD needed for navigation and less expensive than the AVIC-Z2.

Thanks for the info on the d3 jtaudio. I can't do the im thing yet to send my email since I'm still in 'trial mode'. I do want to see the installed pics though. I guess i'll either have to wait for the im thing to work, or you can im your email to me...either one will work.

Hey IT,

when i browsed for the panel on the side it provided two products with two color schemes:

UH GUN METALLIC
US TAUPE GUN METALLIC

Does anyone know the difference? I'm looking to get a factory navigation in my Royal Blue Civic Sedan LX and need the panel. Which one will match my current dashboard color or are they the same?

Thanks in advance.
