in need of a new alternator
I have a 97 civic dx and I just spent some long and hard earned money on my system in my car. I am a diamond d9 with a 1500w mono block amp on it I have the sub running at 1ohm. The audio shop that I went to had told me that I am going to need a new alternator and another battery in the car. I was going to run 2 battery any way but I have been looking for a bigger alt and the biggest I have found is a 75amp is there a bigger one out there and how has it?
A second battery will do nothing but allow you to run the system longer with the key off.

what car audio shop told you that u need a bigger battery? that worries me. a cap reduces voltage fluxuation that the amp sees, which helps maximize its efficiency. an alternator supplies more amperes with the car running and a better battery will only, as b18c ej8 said, will only benefit your car when it isnt running.
check out wrangler northwest they make upgraded alternators and I believe they make one for your car around 125a.

If he's running the amp I think he's running (a diamond d61500.1) than he needs a bigger alt than that. IIRC that amp has 4 30amp fuses on the side
I just checked their website but can't find specific info on it since they just released all their new products. Lame.

Are you running one amplifier alone or multiple? Is the amp I mentioned the one you have?

No the amp i have is a hifonics tx1505d it has 2 60 amp fuses on it(would does the size of the fuses on the amp matter and how will it change my setup). At this time I am running only one amp but i will be getting another one for the mids and highs. But for that I know that I am not going to need something big because I only plan on having highs with an rms of about 50w per. But that is something that I have handled already.
Get a 2.0 farad cap, a 165 ampers alt from Higher Amps on ebay they make custom denso amps with warrenty and then just get a Optima yellow top and rewire it to your truck and you should be straight.

From: 99 probs but a stolen car aint 1, ca, cerritos/fullerton
It depends on what your trying to do. Are you trying to put the battery in the stock location with one battery. Then get the biggest one that will fit with the most cca. If its going in the trunk then get one that fits were it got to go and try to get the biggest one too with the most cca. There is debate on how to setup a two battery system. Some say have both batteries be brand new with the same cca and same type. Some say it can be two diffrent batteries. I allways put in two new batteries when I do a dual setup battery.
i would like to stay with the right size battery under the hood of my car i dont want anything that is going to look out of place. i am able to get mt hands on a 870 cca battery. from what i know that is the biggest battery that they have in the yellow top.
Don't get a cap!!! First buy the alt. If you search you can find them around $200 for your car. Then after you get the funds, look into switching out your starter battery w/ a kinetik hc1400... Made specifically for hondas. The cap is a waste of time IMO. Only get it if you have no better use for your money and you want to show your system off w/ ur trunk open :/

Do you have actual facts to back up this verbal diarreah? Or are you just another one of the anti-cap sheep?

Why not dump the diamond amp and get a more effecient amp?? Such as a digital amp, I'd suggest a Alpine PDX 1000.1 You could run it with a stock alt and not have to worry about your power capacity as much.
If you need a big alternator though, check ebay, I've bought one off there for my b18, a 140amp alt. And its been working great.

I have a yellowtop in my car for my stereo system...It runs fine with 880CA or 750CCA and an 80-amp alternator. I've got a Sony Xplod head unit, 60W RMS MTX Thunder TA 3404 4-channel amp powering two 6.5" and two 6x9 Sony Xplod speakers, two Sony Xplod 12" sonicboomers, and an MTX Thunder TA 3401 monoblock, all fed by a 2.5 Farad capacitor.

PDX amps are good for 2 things: trucks and boats. That's it. They pretty much sound like garbage, especially when you use quality gear like that d9 woofer.
Not that he actually has that diamond amp, but have you heard both of those amps?

now do you really need that fancy optima yellow top? no.
all you need is something to start your car (unless you like listening to your system with the car off) i say go to autozone and get a duralast gold for about half the price and point and laugh at optima.

i would like to hear my radio when i am out fishing and because i want to know that i am not going to kill the small as 60 amp alt. i am still looking for a good alt that is at least 120 amps and up, for around 100$ that i get all optima battery's for about what you would pay for a duralast gold. i just work at a dealership(everything at cost.)
Here is some simple math for you 1500w/14.4v=104 amps assumming 100% efficientcy.
So now tell me if your 60 amp alternator is enough?
Your getting fairly decent advice here beside the occasional idiot.
If your seriously using this much power buy the Alternator first. Then invest in a better battery (you only need one) then purchase a decent cap.
The rule of thumb I use is the alternator should be capable of 80% of the max amplifier current draw + about another 30-40 amps to run the car.

Ditto the above^^^
If your looking for more current, the alt. is the only way your going to get it.
Although I agree with the above, if there is nothing wrong with the batt. you have, get the cap next, then a new batt. if you need it.
If you intend to play the system a lot when car is not running, get the batt. then the cap.
