Need help with front sway bar info for 92 Civic Si
Greetings!
On my 92 Civic Si I have been using a very old school Suspension Techniques front sway bar which is a 19mm add-on bar that mounted below the exhaust using some brackety and extended end links that hang down. They do not make this bar any longer. I also have a 19mm rear ST bar.

You can see almost the whole bar here:

Here is one more:

Last Sunday, I ran over a deer on I-80 coming home from the F1 race at Indy and bent the brackets quite badly. They are old and rusty and my service tech fears they will break when he trys to get them back to position. He is suggesting changing to a replacement type bar to help with the ground clearance problems my current set up has alway given me. (I am tending to agree)
Here are my questions:
By using the factory Si bar (21mm?) and an additional 19mm... what would the effective combined bar size be? Does anyone make that size replacement sway bar? The largest bar I have seen is a 25mm which seems small when compared to what I expect the combined front bars are now. I know that if I go to a smaller front bar I will induce some oversteer... and I'm concerned as I think I am pretty neutral right now.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

go back to the stock 21mm honda front sway bar. you will be fine with the 21front and 19 rear.
going up in size from the 19 to the 21 will not change the balance of the car that much. alot of people will say the cars now going to "understeer" more, but i doubt you will feel a difference.

I have 2 front bars on the car now... the factory (which I think is 21) and the add-on 19 ST bar which is damaged.

I have never seen anyone run such huge amounts of front sway on the EG/DC2 chassis. Why not just take off the add-on bar and see how you like it?

If that is how you prefer your car then none of us can really help you. That is so much front bar! Most people here use a small front bar, or none at all.
While my car is setup with a large rear bias, I do run an LS 22mm front bar on my hatch. (with ITR rear 22mm, and 400/500) I cannot imagine going any further then that!

That was the Suspension Tech. kit that was available back them. An add-on 19mm bar that mounted under the exhaust and a 19mm rear bar. Now, when you order the ST kit for an Si (which has a factory 21mm bar) you get a 25mm replacement front bar and a 19mm rear.
(if you don't have a factory front bar... you get a 19mm "replacement" front bar and the 19mm rear)
I'm trying to keep the handling similar to what I have been quite happy with for the last 12 years. It feels nicely balanced and quite neutral at the track, chasing pylons, and on the street. If it was a dedicated track car or conekiller then I would be doing something different... but this is also my daily driver so I am not going to go to some stiff spring combo or super stiff rear bar. (My wife can loop the car too easily as it is now... see the first pic on the initial post)
In a similar thread over in the Suspension forums we figured that a 24mm bar from a GSR would be an easy replacement and keep the stiffness about the same to what I have had. Now I just have to find one.

you could try an Integra GSR/ITR 24mm OEM front sway bar. you really shouldn't need more than that, IMO. that's what I run on an EG for autocross (SM) and think it's just right. of course a lot of people prefer NO front bar or a smaller one.
the car might feel more flat with a superstiff front bar setup, but it probably won't be faster, especially on STS tires.

I think the 24mm bar is the way to go also. On one of the other threads someone calculated the combined stiffness of the two bars and compared that rate and came up with the 24.
I'm just trying to find one that won't kill me on shipping

There is no "right" suspension, it's all in the preference. If you like it to be stiff in the front then make it stiff in the front.
