type R spoiler
Hi,
What are the advantages and disadvantages of have the type R spoiler other than looks. Also if you had a choice, would you go for the type R spoiler or keep the gsr wing. I'm just debating about getting a new spoiler.
Also is there anyone in here with a type R wing on their Gsr's, if you can post pics that would be great.
thanks

i personally dont think an R spoiler is needed on a gsr.... R spoilers are made for R's, not GS-R's.... It also doesnt look that great, unless you have a jdm ITR front end, and your ride is low w/ some dope rims....but if you have stock gsr rims, stock hieght...your asking for rice!
i was thinking of getting the wing........
improvements (better stability........) from what i hear........one of these days, ill jus put one on to test it.....
as for it being rice on a gs-r without JDM front end......
i think itll look good on this
as with the install........even if i could get the wing for 100 bucks, i'd have to fill in the holes, more money, and get a 3rd (stock hatch) brake light....
all that is a lot of cash............
especially when i'd rather spend it on engine/suspension, or driving ability.......

I always loved the way the JDM R sedan looked. SO I went ahead and got the R spoiler. There are actually afew good things about it
1) Its OEM and the quality is there
2) It blocks headlight glare at night from those F150's and suburbans

TypeR wing
One of the only wings I will put on my car.I now have the 3 piece mid
really ricy IMO,I have a brand new wings west typeR spoiler in my room but its gonna cost alot of money to have it put on,the 3 piece is mounted on the back 1/4 panels the wholes have to be filled and then both sides have to be repainted.
But the GSR and type spoilers are the perfect, the R is a little more aggressive but not ricy.

one thing you might have to worry about is 3rd brake light laws. i don't know what the laws are in your state, but i am pretty positive that you need a 3rd brake light in my state. by removing the gsr wing, you'll be losing that third brake light and you'll have to install an ls-type rear window brake light. either that or you can find one of those type-r replica wings with the 3rd light... personally, i'd rather stick to my stock gs-r wing. like it was said before. r-wings belong on r's.
I'm gonna buy an LS 3rd light or fabricate a universal 3rd brake light and be done with it.It looks a little ricy having a real high brake light IMO,the thing I like best about it is there is no 3rd light on the wing.

TypeR wing is very nice. Only thing is the holes from the gs-r wing will need to be filled first. Only minor
Hey guys,
Thanks for all info... I think I'll keep my stock GSR wing. I never thought of this but yeah the third brake night on the type-R replica wings would look goofy, especially at night.

Its an exact replica of the stock itr wing. There will be 1 hole left uncovered. The others will be used for the wing.
The Type R wing serves no purpose unless you are tossing the car around on a track or road course. I can't see it doing much in a straight line or in normal day to day street driving. ...but that's my opinion.
I have an ITR wing knock-off that I got for about $130 on eBay... It's light weight, uses the stock holes, and is shaped just like the real ITR wing. I payed a few bucks extra to get one with a LED brake light, which in my opinion looks better than a stock 3rd brake light that's obstructed by a spoiler and tint. I think the wing looks pretty good on the car, but it's all a matter of opinion... I won't tell people what to do with their car and I don't let them tell me what to do with mine.
As for performance, my car was previously wingless, and the ITR wing makes a noticable difference at highway speeds and above. It's hard to precisely describe it, but it feels more stable and like the rear of the car is lower or something. It's a definate improvement.

I think the ITR spoiler with the OEM kit is absolutely gorgeous. I was plannin on getting that on a GS-R when I thought I was getting one.
And yes the ITR replica spoilers with the brake light look very bad IMO.
