How many of you big HP guys are runnin stock axles??
im finishing up my motor build going to shoot for 450whp...im running slicks at the track i just want to know if i buy stock new...not reman...axles will i be ok if i dont rev it up super high and dump the clutch..any advice is greatful..thanks
Pre-loading will help extend the life of stock axles. You could still break those axle while shifting gears too. It really depends on your driving.

ive been pretty lucky with axles, 650+ launching 7000rpm and havnt snapped one yet. its all about how you launch, if you launch like a jackass, they'll treat you like a jackass.

i left my axles stock and im rnning 650hp. breaking an axle is a 15 mins change and any auto part store carries them. breaking a tranny or something else because ur axles didnt give and someting else did sucks. i been pretty good so far. i messed up one joint but didnt break it in 3 years of haveing over 400 hp and last year with 650hp

hey this is a dumb question but what are you talking about preload the spring preload, like the bottom perch or preloading the clutch or something?
Yeah sure it may be easy after changing axles 50 times and warrantied for life but who wants to break an axle when your at the track or miles away from anything? The warranty wont help you when your stranded.
i have 2 sets of axles, a jack and tools when i go to the track. if you preload at the line you should be ok. you can break an axle just as easy as blow a motor at the track.
600+whp on stock axles, should be hitting the track i think next weekend for the first time lets see how they hold up.
drove my friends car at ~500whp on 24.5" slicks no preloading, coming off the line at 7600rpm at around 8-10psi. im more worried about a harsh 1-2 shift than the launch. when i roll up to the tree i have the ebrake on it seems to keep the slack out of the drivetrain.
haha i sold one of the extra axles we brought to an all motor guy that broke a set. kinda felt bad we made so many clean passes with a ton more power.
if you are going to the track definately bring an extra set, as well as the tools needed to change it.

how is it more harsh from 1to2 then a 7600rpm dump of the clutch i have only seen one person brake a axle half track butt a lot of them
on the line how the is the ebrake doing anything ween the clutch is pushed to the flower at the line is your car rolling preloading takes the shock out of the tranny and the axles seems your taking the shock out of the rear suspension

preloading is lifting the clutch a Little at the line to take the shock out

they speak english in "what"?
using the ebrake will put preload on the drive line if you are pulling up to the line with it up some.

reason im more worried about a 1-2 shift is if you dead hook second then its a lot more stressfull than launching because it just spins the tires.
i didnt say the way i do it is preloading because its not, hence i said i didnt do it at all. i just said it seemed to help with keeping slack our of the driveline parts. and it worked well for us at the track.
the way i see it if you roll forwad and use the brakes some slack will build up, but if you have the ebrake up, and drag it forward no slack should build up. maybe im thinking about this all wrong. oh well this worked great for us at the track so far.

He's not alone. A LOT of people bring spare axles to the track.

563whp on advance auto parts axles... i keep 2 sets of spares but rarely break them now that im preloading... but if i do, lifetime warranty ftw!!! 7k rpm 2step launches preloading on 25x8.7 slicks....

Definitely a must have when racing at the track, especially when its far from home lol. I was going to buy a set of factory axles but im liking the sound of this lifetime warranty. Anyone have a hard to getting the axle nut off at the track without an impact? Never had to do it before, just curious.

I ran my old civic for over 200 passes never preloaded and never broke one axle I think I just got lucky.I am now running with 346whp so I think I ll be pre loading from now on.I used to run a 240 last year and didnt pre load and ended up breaking 2 tailshafts out of my tranny in 2 days
