Are E Cutouts rubbish in general??? People who've had them, come in!
I thought loads of people were running E cutouts from people like DMH. But after my post, no one replied and others just said it was ****.
I want a silent system, i read every old topic on this and all the pictures are gone because they are all very old topics!
I have two options!
Run a 2.5" Down pipe into a 2.5" buddyclub pro spec exhaust.
Or run 3" downpipe into 3" cutout and then stock exhaust.
What would you do? I think E cutouts are a decent price, and i want my car to be quiet. Also its a pretty kl trick flicking from silence to pure hell!!!
Someone help for once on this decision! What are your expericenes
Any pics of your setup or vids!!!

myself am going to run a 3" dp to a mechanical type 3" cutout to a 2.4" apexi exhaust...there will be 3" cat between the cutout Y pipe and the exahust so i can pass emissions!
3" DP --> 3" Y pipe with 3" mech cutout --> 3" cat --> 2.4" exhaust system
i got the Apexi Noir which is black andiozed, long muffler like stock mufflers and heard it on my friends legacy and liked how it sounds (stock on idle and a nice quite M5 sound on WOT) so i decided to buy it so i run it on low boost! cutout will be open on high boost though...it probably sounds complicated, but i have no other choice if i wanted to sound legal, pass emissions and still make power!

I think it is a pretty trick idea but I personally dont run one. I would run one but I have heard you have to adjust the tune a little for open cutout on dp vs full exhaust. I already have full 3" exhaust though and a magnaflow muff keeps it pretty quiet and unnoticeable (black high temp coating helps too).
twkd have you got an vid or anything of your car? i want to hear what it sounds like.
Integra type r thats what i wanted to do too! but i think i would use my buddyclub pro spec which is quite loud but i can always put the exhaust bung in to bring the noise down a little....
ANYONE ELSE???

i added a QTP cutout on my downpipe and boost nor my tune changed.
i leave it open all the time. sounds so much better than the full 3" exhaust with magnaflow which sounds like a weedeater.
no where near as loud as a open header on a n/a car..

I had heard that it would throw off the tune slightly... like I said I dont run one so I will defer to you on that one for sure you would know better than me.dont know what magnaflow you had but mine is quiet as can be (damn near stock sounding, just a little deeper note)... sounds very muffled and quiet through the rpms at any throttle till I get into boost. Then all you hear is wastegate and turbo... exhaust just sounds like rushing air in boost... no buzz box here.

i ran one last year for like 20k miles probably. it was a pain in the ***. id have to tighten it back up at least once a month, i broke it off on a pothole once, and sometimes the motor would work inconsistantly. it was still cool to just open it up and hammer the throttle. ive since switched to a full 3" with 3" magnaflow muffleer and i am happier now. light throttle its quiet as stock, and i dont have to worry about opening the cutout if i wanna hammer the gas
i have a DMH 3" cutout which leads to a stock muffler. w/ the cutout closed the car sounds STOCK!!!! plus it gives the car a sleeper look from behind. when i open up the cutout, the car sounds like a totaly different beast. the difference in power is night and day.
w/ the cutout closed, my a/f is in the mid 10's. w/ the cutout open, a/f is in the low to mid 11's. on 10 psi w/ my cutout, my car made 366whp.
make sure u JB weld the motor to the base of the cutout, or else the motor WILL fallout. my 1st motor fell off, but i have a 4 year warranty w/ DMH. i got a new one in the mail. i JB weld the cutout and i havent had no issues with it so far

it is a very cool concept, but a pain in the ***. i have had 2 dmh 3" cutouts and they both fell apart within 1000 miles. i have since threw them in the garbage and got a 3" exhaust. not as cool, but i dont have to fix it every time i drive it!

if u JB weld it like i did, u wont have n e problems

i've had a lot of problems with E cut outs in the past with them falling apart from the vibrations , etc. It was a hassle so I just switched to a full 3" exhaust and never looked back

^^ i used wire to hold it together, mine brakes about every 3 months, DMH is real good about sending me new motors for free
boosted k20 have you got any pictures of your setup? thanks for the helpful info!
I think the cutout is the only way im going to be able to pass emissions and noise levels!

i ran a DMH 3" last year and stock exhaust was nice to be able to drive around and have a stock sounding exhaust, then open it up and scare the **** out of people next to me. but it was kind of annoying to have to open the cutout when i really wanted to go
btw cutout open made ~12lbs and and closed (stock exh) would only make ~9lbs
Stock LS...shortly after the motor blew

My buddy got a qtp 3" cutout on the his sti. You have to modify it a little bit so it stays together. You have make sure the screws don't come out of the plate, usually just flarring them out helps. Electric motor may take a **** in like 2 years. Make sure you don't hold the open or close button too long because motor does not stop by it self and it will eventually burn out. It's defently nice to have a quiet car, but then when you need it crank that bitch open. It's the funniest **** when some dushbag thinks he is sitting next to a stock car, then all of the sudden it turns out not so stock after all.
The best are the backfires, it sounds like fuckiing shot gun going off next to your ear and shoots about a 2 foot flame out from the side of the car. There is nothing like the sound of a boxer running open downpipe.

asked my brother about his last night, said he has had no problems with his QTP for more than a year they have been on the car. all he did was take them apart, re-grease the gearing inside and loctite everything on reassembly.
I was thinking about eventually getting one of these, then hooking the line to a switch on the TB, which would activate at WOT. But then again, I was looking at tossing the motor and retrofitting a large solenoid from an older CNC control cabinet. I wouldn't like the fact I'd have to hold the button or actually have to wait for it to open.
