Default Koyo Racing Radiator Woes...

Recently picked up a Koyo Aluminum radiatior. So much for "direct fit", it doesn't even come close to fitting between the front crossmember and the rad support. Only 3 out of the 4 mounting tabs for the stock fan line up and it looks like the stock fan cannot be used anyways since it will hit the crossmember.

Anyone else have these issues? It's a nice rad, but I am questioning whether it's worth it for all the surgery I'm going to have to do. Do Fluidyne's fit better?

Fluidyne's is a much better fit, mine bolted right up no problems, I also have a half in it so.....but it cools a hell of alot better than oem.

Thanks for the input. I bit the bullet and ground off all the mounting tabs (for A/C) etc. so that the rad will clear the crossmember, next up is bending the lower rad support to clear and I'm going to have to buy a flexilite fan.

Seems like a lot of messing around but the Koyo does seem to be a better rad overall than the Fluidyne. It's thicker and the upper and lower dowels are nicer...

I will try and post some pics when I am done.

Not sure what type of EF you've got...here's how I had to modify a Koyo to fit in my 91 CRX SI. Basically just hacksawed off the areas indicated.

Final fitment - stock fan works OK too (never comes on now though heh-heh)

I got a ef9.

damm, that radiator is huge?

ever consider running no fan?

my stock Radi never gets over 1/4 mark on stock gauge.... in city traffic, my alloy one is not as big as your one, but if I had that rad, my temp wont move

It was advertised as a "drop-in" fit - thought it would be a snap

Actually, the fan did come on once...when I seafoamed my engine before taking a smog test. Even with fan not running coolant temp never moves above 1/4 mark even on the hottest days.

I have a fluidyne 1/2 rad which was supposed to be a direct fit but was far from it. I had to upgrade to a traction bar and hammer the underside of the hood to make it fit and it's still a tight fit.

Sorry - never heard of "facelift" before. Just noticed you're in NZ... I'll defer on exact US-JDM differences in hood/latch area to someone who knows (I'm not sure)

Sorry, in the US the term facelift isn't as commonly used for the body differences. I'm assuming you're refering to 88-89 (pre-facelift) and 90-91 (facelift)? Or do you mean the SiR front end (we didn't get that allthough alot of people import them).

$340, it's the Fluidyne 90-93 DA Integra radiator so it has the B-Series sized fittings.

i dont recall the koyo being too much of a pain to install in my car. maybe hacksawing off a few areas on the bottom. but thats it. it even fit under the hood without touching, i was able to use the factory fan, and used the factory mounts and whatnot. im even going to use it on my newer setup. just switch to a thin pusher fan this time though.

OK, I think im going to try the Koyo, although I have the B16A swap like Bob, and I was looking on this site: http://www.statracing.com/buy/koyo-radiator.asp

Which would I go with? The Denso or the Showa?
