ITBs: TWM vs Jenvey
Obviously I know that the Jenveys are a better overall piece then the TWMs. But how so? I just hear that they are better without any reason. Besides the sticking throttle which can be fixed with an extra spring.
I am in the market for ITBs. I have the option to locally pick up a set of TWM ITBs for around $900. Or spend $2300 for DonF's Jenveys.
And to mix things up further, what about A Sport ITBs? There is a set up for sale for $2000 currently. I don't hear too much about them.

JENVEY hit up lance @ howard performance http://www.haywardperformance.com thats were I got mine from.
My buddy runs the TWM's 50mm on his c5..and its pretty hard to believe but the actually only problems we ever had with twm's were, we had to get new springs.. and redo the wiring on the tps..other then that..these things kick ***, its a first to hear me say this but this car..hauls ***..doesn't matter where in the rpm range he's at if he floors it, your head will hit the back of the seat.. i think both brands are nice.. just jenvey's probably have more experince with imports but i see no reason not to get twms.. twm has a wider range of products as well.. and they were very helpful on the phone...very helpful even sent some parts to us over night for free..
IMO i like driving with the jenvys and they make good power throughout the powerband, i opted for the TWM but had to do alot of modifications to it like (Tap each runner for map vacuum, plug up one end and rewire the tPS) if you dont feel like doing alot of customization and tuning, get the jenveys
TWM's come in 2 sizes and 1 length. Jenvey's come in 7 sizes and several lengths. For $900.00 I would get the TWM's and figure out how to modify the rest of the engine, pistons, cams, head work, as that would be the start point of your build.

i personally have twms but would love a set of jenveys. the twms runner angles are pretty much generalized for the b series, where as jenveys runners is designed for the particular head. also the throttles are interchangeable on jenveys and you can get different sized runners, or add spacers to it to adjust the space of the throttles by buying the short runners and adjsut it to your setup. jenveys are much more well thought out than the twms in my opinion. if i ever opt to sell my twms i will be getting a set of jenveys.
Everyone has already stated the primary reasons why Jenvey's are superior to TWM's.
The A-sport ITB's are AE86 Toyota units modified to 48mm with a cast aluminum manifold portion. They're comparable to TODA's induction system in terms of size and power ouput. Good for 1.6-1.8L applications, but not ideal for 2.0+.

IMHO
TWM's are garbage, unless you plan on using them for a drag-only engine. the preform pretty well in higher RPM's. However the partial throttle and mid-range seriously suffers from the short runners and awkward linkage.
A-Sports are a good kit. The fitment, throttle linkage, and overall quality is one of the best I've seen on the market. On a bad note, they work best on stock to moderately built 1.6-1.8L engines. They will choke out on fully built 1.8-2.0L's.
Toda's are great. Fitment and throttle linkage is top notch. I've personally seen great results on many 1.6-2.0L fully built B-series engines. They make great HP and torque throughout the entire power-band.
I think if you have the budget a custom Jenvey setup will be your best bet. I think when it comes to ITB's, you get what you pay for.

I have heard nothing but good stuff about A-sports, especially about them being matched to stock block(bore) 1.8 and 1.6 motors well. just hard to get

Great setup, however they lost 12hp on my built ITR over a Comptech Ported ITR manifold matted & Maxbore ITR throttle body

bigger runner volume doesn't necessarily equate to make it faster ... notice I said faster and not more power.
there are jsut too many variables to determine which is better, the bottom line is how the torque curve looks in the entire rpm band.
As small as the Toda ITBs are, we still made 280+whp on a dynojet with about 190 lb-ft TQ on a 86mm bore x 92mm stroke setup years ago. Obviously we can do that with a manifold, probably do it with TWMs or Jenveys too, but if the Toda's did it with 48mm and the TWMs 50mm lost TQ but made slightly more peak HP, the Toda still made the car go faster.

my TWM's perform 100% perfectly in the entire powerband no matter what throttle imput . so for somebody to say twm's are complete garbage, its coming from somebody who didnt have them tuned right , bottom line.
the numbers are there as well . you just have to do a few things to get them to run right. taping each runner is a must on both old and 2000 series itb's. one drawback for me right now is the sticky throttle situation , whatever i do i cant get them to not be sticky. helper springs etc dont work ive tried.
depends on what you want in an itb , fine tuning and quality go with jenvy's. but for the money twm's are nice , good quality and perform well when done right.

Hmm ok
Maybe you personally had great results from them, however my tuner and everyone else I know who has used and tuned with TWM's has had horrible experiences.
Mark, weren't you having partial throttle or tip-in issues with yours?

only time i had issues was when my runners werent tapped . not talking down on your tuners . but if twms can be made to run flawlessly by one person , but be completly horrible by another , you know something is wrong......
i can post daily driving videos of me just cruisin down the street , car drives like stock.

Well the drivablitly of the cars that where tunedw ith TWM's where good, like stock. They had also tapped and used a vacuum canister. However the power-band sucked donkey dick and only had gains above 7500 rpm. WE then replaced those ITB's with custom Jenvey's and the the difference was night and day. Midrange HP gains where in the 15hp range, peak HP and TQ where the same

I tested a set of TWM 50mm ITB's last spring. Tapped each runner, modified the return spring, street+dyno tuned, ran perfect.
+1 whp at 9000, +3 whp at 6000. Couple tq here and there.
This was compared to my stock ITR IM/TB.
Glad I had the oppourtunity to test them. They're not garbage, but I'm definately not impressed.

how much did you end up making with your fully built 2 liter again? I bet you would have better results with Jenveys or even Todas. But hey, what do I know?

who ever said i was worried about peak . let the powerband speak for its self.

this is with ignition timing untouched on pump.
did i ever say i wouldnt make more power with jenveys or todas? no . i was just defending the fact that if the tuner knows what hes doing , twms will drive like stock.
