Default 01 ITR intake cam and CTR cam make comparable gains ?

I have a b18C(sir-g) and I want to put in a 01 ITR intake cam. Will it make the same gain as a CTR intake cam ? Are there any differences in these 2 cams ?

Like 3 degree's of duration? ANd surely yoru gonna upgrade the exhaust cam as well, right?

Not enough to justify the money.

Now, of course when you do this, you need to have a single plenum manifold, 4-1 header, good exhaust and a tune.

Gotta build the package man

I have a blox intake mani and a cat back for now.

no only the intake cam. From my research, theres not much gain from the exhaust cam to make it worth the 150 or more i would spend for it.

Well, think about it... You increase the amount of air your engine can suck in by replacing the IM and Intake cam, but you're not increasing how well it can get rid of that air by not replacing the exhaust cam.

Give me a min and I'll find the specs on the stock GSR exhaust cam and the specs on the ITR/CTR exhaust cam. There's quite a bit of difference if memory serves me correct.

ITR/CTR exhaust cam lift is 10.5 mm (.413 lift)
GSR is 9.6 (.378 lift)

B series cam guide/specs

interesting, so you think it would be better to replace the exhaust cam also ? What would be the result of not replacing the exhaust cam ?

Honestly, I have no clue what gains you would see. It may only be 1-2 hp, I really don't know.

I did see a guy though, who's on H-T (can't remember his name) but he had only the CTR intake cam (stock GSR exh) and made great power.

It's really up to you and how much money you want to spend. But if you want the most power and the most efficient engine, when you upgrade one part you've gotta look at evrything surrounding it and make sure the other components will work with your new part/s.

honestly, the 98+ itr intake cam and the ctr intake cam are almost identical. Even if you were to replace the gsr exhaust cam with an itr exhaust cam, you still won't see any real noticeable gains. As mac_24_seven said, you'll get maybe around 1-2 whp, but if you tune afterwards, you might be able to get a couple more hp.

If it's a real healthy engine and you have a good tuner.. 170 to the wheels is possible. A guy on here did it

its a b18c, runs smooth as hell! The compression check came out to 220 220 207 220. So I think its in pretty good shape.

not quite what youre lookin for maybe, but im runnin the 01 spec itr cams(both cams) with basic boltons(i/h/e) and a bored TB. still have the stock IM on and i put down 164whp tuned with a vacf2. i hope to get 170 with a new manifold and another tune. oh this is on a 96 gsr with about 130K on her

edit: i also changed to ITR valvsprings

nice, maybe with an upgraded single stage intake manifold and a tune on a better system(crome, hondata etc.) would probably yeild you more power I would think.

Go w/Chrome or Hondata (or something along that line) and you'll either be damn close to 170 or a lil over

You CAN run the stock GSR springs w/ITR/CTR cams.. It's not advised, but lots of pple do it. Just don't go revving to the moon.

You can also swap the GSR intake spring to the exhaust side, since the ITR's exhaust lift is about the same as the GSR's intake lift. Then, you just upgrade to ITR springs on the intake side and yoru good to go.

OR, you just do it right and swap out the INT/EXH springs for ITR's

Your call. Kill the environment or make more power? Test pipes are indeed worth a few ponies, but it made my exhaust note very raspy :S
