In my own search to find a new set of springs, I found that there isn't a whole lot of info readily available comparing similar springs giving all specs. I took to gathering what I could via websites and customer support. One thing I do need to state concerning spring rates, is that there's no standard for measuring spring rates, so you can't simply compare one spring to another by rate because there are too many factors (equipment and ride height being the biggest two). That being said, here's what I could find (info based on 4th gen springs)

so assuming i want to drop about 1in no more or close to 1.5 because of my lip and NYC, what spring rate should I look for if i want to be comfortable and since i don't go to the track or race or anything?
i would do h&r sport or eibach pros... tirerack does a comparison on a bmw 3 series.. read that up and you will find the results.. one of them is slightly sportier and one is slighter more comfortable, i forget which is which, i want to say the h&r's handle better(which is what id get if I were you).. the progressive spring rate makes for a really nice ride.. nothing like the ground control+koni im about to install to my weekend autocrosser..
good luck
mike.

i was told to get tokico adjustable struts, and tein s tech springs that way i'm under 500, and at a 1.1-1.2 in drop. So.. the higher the spring rate the better the handling or better the comfort?

Sorta. Like I said, there's no standard way to measure spring rate, but higher=stiffer which usually means better handling. And, from the tirerack.com BMW test, H&R handled better, and Eibach rode smoother
