225/45/15 hoosier, 15x8 45mm on ITR
I just picked up a beautiful set of Volk TE37 in 15x8 45mm. I'd like to mount some 225/45/15 hoosiers R6s on them, but I'm worried about clearance on the TA. I don't have the tires yet, but putting the bare wheel on, it looks like it will be very close, if not definitely rubbing. I have to use a 5mm spacer to clear the rear UCA, so basically the rears are now a 40mm offset.
Does anybody have ITR experience with this setup? If it's not possible, would the 8" width be overkill for a hoosier 205?

I know on my GSR with 225/45/15 hoosiers, I was rubbing the rear TA. Not too bad, but under certain load situations I was rubbing. I then bought a 5 mm spacer and it seems to be ok now.
As far as 15x8 goes this is a big rim. You can fit 225 on a 15x7" rim.

For use of 205s, most all the tire manufacturers that I know of for race tires only reccomend using a 7.5" wide rim.. .
This is why I bought a set of 15x7.5 +40 Rota Slipstreams so I can run 205s or 225s in either 50 or 45 series and have good fitment.
I hear that the beads on Hoosiers are good for fitting wider than normal tires on slim rims. Not sure if they work well the other way around.. .

I dont have experience with the 15x8 rim but I ran 225/45/15 r6's on 15x7 +37 k1's without too much difficulty. There was very litte rubbing and it didnt require me to use spacers.
Hoosier says that the R6 in 225/45-15 should be used on rims 7.0-9.0 inches wide, and that the R6 in 205/50-15 should be used on rims 6.0-8.0 inches wide. Toyo says that the RA-1 in 205/50-15 should be used on rims 5.5-7.5 inches wide (I'm not sure about their 225/45).
I'm running the Toyo RA-1 in 205/50-15 on the stock 15x6 rims and they work fine. In fact, I finally corded two more of them yesterday at Mid-Ohio after about a bazillion track miles.

the perfect wheel width for a hoosier 225 is 9", whereas the perfect wheel width for a 205 hoosier is 7.5".

It's interesting how many little differences there seem to be on cars that are basically the same.
When I use 225-45-15 RA1 with SSR +38's and 16K springs, there is no issue at the trailing arm whatsoever. However, there would be contact with the outer fender lip (even rolled) if there were ever an event that caused full compression.

800 f 1000 r. Car feels great, but im not looking forward to using the 225/45/15 ra1's after getting used to the Kumho's and trying the hoosiers

225 45 15 Hoosiers won't fit in back unless you roll the lip a healthy amount. You can space them away from the LCA (takes 10mm spacer on stock rims) but the outside rubs.
Go with 205s in the back and 225s up front like everyone else.

Read closer. Jeremy ran Hoosiers, not Toyos. Everyone knows the 225 Toyo is narrower then the 225 Hoosier, thus less issues with rubbing.

Only because some people put rotating tires ahead of optimizing the setup.

crr, as you know we both are looking at very similar intended setups:
Here's my calculations based on wheels that are (or were in production):
stock usdm itr wheels in 15x6 +50
stock jdm wheels in 16x7 +40 (?is this right?)
racing hart cp035 15x7.5 +40 offset
volk racing te37 15x8 +27 OR +45 offset
If I were to extrapolate out the cp035's dimensions, it would need a +33 or +34 offset in 15x8.
So to bring your +45 offset 15x8's out that far, you'll need a 10mm spacer.
The oem wheels if extrapolated for the dimensions would leave you in a 15x8 +24 offset.
And of course a 15x10 would leave you with an offset of zero, +1, or -1 (yes negative). 
I know that's not the answer you wanted, because there may be fender clearance issues. I have no problem doing some trimming or cutting, however.
et, al: I'd like to actually bring the offset out to +27 range (that's an 18mm spacer), so is there any issue with running a spacer this big? Or even a 1" spacer?

What's wrong with this? My cousin is using 1" H&R spacers on his DC5.
Yes, the spacers bolt onto the hub and are hubcentric, and the spacer itself has it's own lug nuts and is itself hubcentric as well, the same 64.1mm hub diameter as stock.
i looked at their website, but those spacers bolt onto the hub and then the wheel bolts to the spacer.....
