VSS wtf! i have no clue what to do now!
well along with everything that has gone wrong with my civic this week i went to get my wheel alignment and of course i need a new tie rod, so i was on my way home and my speedo was jumping around like crazy then it just turned off. about 1 minute later my CEL turns on. i get home and i say maybe my vss went bad. i pulled out one of the extra ones i had laying around and i put it in took it for a test run same thing. tried the thrid one same thing, my buddy came over and we took his out and put it in mine same thing. so what we did was pulled out the sensor and spun it by hand nothing. so we started playing around with the plug while spinning the sensor and the speedo would jump once in a while. could it be my plug went bad on me?
damn man i know the feeling
i drove for like 3 months without a speedo
i replaced the VSS and even the cluster
well ya it turned out the connection went bad
go to a local junk yard and grab up another connection plug
make sure that you have enough wire on it
cut the old one off and solder the new one on
should take care of the problem

DO NOT TAKE ALL THREE OUT! the one that is the lowest mounted 10mm bolt is the one that you take out and the whole sensor will come out. the reason why i say don't take all three out is because of you take the two that hold the sensor down out and you remove the sensor there is a little key in there that spins the sensor if you lose that your done for! let me know if you need any other help

mines fluctuating from 0-20 once in a while and its dead most of the time, it doesnt work at all, i get no vss code till 20 min later after driving, i replaced it twice already, im hoping its not the cluster. im going to change my plug like you.
I've had VSS issues for as long as I can remember. I've replaced my sensor 4 times, the plug clip 2 times, and my speedo 2 times. We've determined that there is a short in my VSS wiring in the harness somewhere. Try running the signal wire directly from the plug clip to the ECU and see if that fixes anything.
after u reset ur ecu, do u get the code like after hard driving.? I dont get the code till like 1/2 hour after driving.
anyway, can anyone post a picture of their plug and which wire is which, my plug isnt the right one and i cant find a picture of a pinout.

No.. I mean either repin or cut the wire at the base of the clip, and repin or cut the signal wire at the ECU and do a direct connection. That will rule out the wiring harness.
