Default Whats the Diff between a log, top mount, ram horn manifold???

Has anyone ever shown a positive gain from manifold to manifold??? Like anyone done a comparassion with the same setup/boost to find out if and what manifold makes more power and what one makes more trq and what are the pro's and con's of each manifold instead of just being one looks better then the other?

Yes brad you have, but for the people that dont know... this would be a great thread for them to learn. infact please point out the pro's and cons of each because you know in detail on each.

well there is a post for all the people that "don't know" it's a sticky that apparently people "don't know" to look for. for gods sake open your eyes and just try to look for yourself. there are to many hours spent on organizing this info for everyone to just over look it.

There are comparisons ALL OVER this site, with dyno graphs side by side.

Enlighten me, i'd love to hear why a "top mount" is better than a "ram horn".

With a top mount the turbo is right there when you open up your hood so you get more visual whp, especially in the higher rpms.

I am guessing you're all joking??

Minilog < Ramhorn < Topmount when it comes to torque.

DIfference between mini and ram are easy to see on a mild 300whp setup, and topmount vs ram is easy to see on a decent setup with about 400 - 450whp.

Dyno sheet on ram vs topmount shown in a few posts.

However it is still hard to say rockhard evidence is there for the top vs ram because there was no info on who manufactured both manifolds and the setups or changes on each.

So you're saying the top mount is best, but then you follow that up with the truth, that you can't compare the generic term "top mount" and "ram horn" because they are all made differently?

i have a good idea and am willing to lend a hand.

you all give me some money, ill buy a topmount/ramhorn/log style manifolds and exhausts to fit each. and test them out at the same psi.

sounds good to me!

Sorry, what that means is more than likely the topmount will provide better torque numbers than that of the ram horn based on a few dyno charts so far, however how much is hard to say.

For the most part its usually bling factor, but there is a difference among ram vs minilog which is simple.

What kind of top mount are we talking about? And why would it produce better torque numbers?

i think a guy from out in cali was doing his college engineering project on some manifolds, such as flow and what not. i think full race had amanifold in there somewhere.

and please dont anyone bring up the log/ramhorn video comparison, cause if i need to i will shed some light on that one too

That was one of Geoff's buddies that did that. I was there when they were testing things. Pretty interesting stuff. Pressure transducers on every runner both at the head flange and at the collector, measuring pressure loss through the runner on each manifold.

Easier to stick your hand in the turbo to change the bearings, duh.

i am assuming at least one pro for a top mount is the availabilty of a 4" dp? Obviosly on a set up that would use more psi i guess but im not sure, i have an NA k series, so waht do i know about boost...

You can do a 4" downpipe on a "ram horn" too.

A divided housing is not really feasible on a ram horn the way the runners are paired up. With the top mount you can get them running in sync to where a divided housing is beneficial. Other than that I believe it doesnt have much else that would make it better. But I am not a pro on the topic.
