boost or swap
quick question guys i gota civic ex 98 and i was wunderin should i jus boost my dsereis or should i swap in a b series? which would cost more in the long run? cuz IF i boost, i plan to boost no more than 6-8 lbs. but IF i swap il b swapping in a b18c1. i no dis is prly the 100th time dis thread on here jus lookin for answer/suggestions is all
Well... the b series is going to have more potential in stock form. If you want to spend the least, boost the D series. If you want to have more power in the end, I would swap and then buy a turbo later on. IMO, now I do understand there are a lot of strong D series but they are for the most part built.
It's really up to you. If you want a reliable boosted car, you will have to pay a good amount of money to do it, chipping the ECU, dyno tuning, rebuilding engine/stock interval replacement with aftermarket pieces...
On the other hand, swapping an engine is a bit more money, so if you're on a budget, then go with boosting.

They say you can make 225whp on stock internals, i dont know exactly how much they are boostin' , but i do know that is on a tune.

Youre gonna have to tune it. Its always best anyway otherwise your car wont perform to its potential.
But seriously go with the B-series and save up for a turbo. Thats prolly the best thing to do. Youll thank yourself later on.

Uhh... wtf are YOU talking about?? There are so many stock LS engines putting down 300 whp with no problems... and all they have is a $2500-$3000 turbo kit and thats with reliable parts...
I think you may have misunderstood me, thats why you edited your post, and I still don't think you get it.
All I said what that if he wants to get a bunch of power in the end to boost a B series and get 300 whp, if he wants to get a decent amound, boost a D and get 220 hp.

Yea, b blocks can handle about 300whp.

iv drove a lot of cars
i went from a bone stock dx it got totaled, then a 93 gsr blow tranny then a 98ex and now i plan on boosting my ex and drive it a daily driver near future
and not yet tryd boosted bseries
and iv seen lots of boosted d16 and they made some good numbers
so i say boost it as well

so long story short if i get a decent turbo kit on my dseries and get it tuned rite i shouldnt hav any problem for a daily driver? and spend less that swapin a bseries as well?
thats what i found out
i had a complete b16 execept tranny, clutch kit, dizzy, axsles, mounts i was going spend lil over 1300 buxs
and as for the d16 turbo kit live spent lil under 300

amen to that, i got a .42 .48 ar t3 on my z6 and i am running 8 psi all day on a rich A$$ turbo basemap (chrome) i am still saving for the dyno but, i say boosted D = Bang for your Buck

well i trade my b16 longblock bout 400bills into it
traded for a greddy tdo4h turbo, xs bov, xs boost controller, and piping,
and paid 30 buxs for blue box and fmu, and another 30 buxs for greddy manifold (a/c compatible) and smic, and 40 for obd1-obd2 pig back, 50 for 2 different downpipes for d series, 45 for faze boost controller, oo yea less then 10 buxs on Ts and fitings for oil lines
that would be all that i paid and got
