Drum to disc conversion
disc brakes vs. drum brakes are not necessairly better at stopping power. rather, they're easier to service and disperses heat better than drums. not to mention that about 85-90% of the stopping power is done by the front brakes alone.

IMO, i felt it a little better then before when i had drums, but that could all be in my head.
the main reason i went to discs in the rear was that it's easier to change disc pads then drum shoes.

It was measured by the butt and bling dyno.
Because in the real world you don't have to worry about 1) Maintenance. Drums are hassle-free once setup, and you don't need to change pads hardly at all because they are only doing ~15% of the work.
And 2) Stopping power is totally bogus for autox or the street. Again, the front does 9/10ths of the work. Save yourself a wad of cash and get real brake pads for the front.
I don't know why there are so many misconceptions about brakes.

hmm, ive heard and seen people fry oem drum shoes in a single heat. so i dont know that it's 'bogus'.
replacing drum shoes can be a pain, but you dont really do it very frequently. i wouldnt say that are hassle free though, because you should be adjusting them any time you replace the front pads. the hassle is in getting the drum off in the first place. 9 times out of 10 it will be stuck hardcore.

i got burned.
actually 58.6% of all statistics are made up! (it says so on Hooter's moist towellettes)
but I couldn't possibly ever feel confident track racing with drum brakes. Its just more pleasing to the eye to see discs back there too, and if worst comes to worst, I want that extra 10% stopping power if I ever need it, a few inches could be the difference in saving points in my insurance.

Remember that tires do as much for stopping the car as brakes do. So if you want to stop better, get sticky rubber.
But still, for street applications a set of upgraded front pads is all you need. They sell upgraded rear shoes as well, but again...they are pointless.
And all of the guys racing their ITA cars with rear drums must be clueless, right?
Sure, if you do a lot of HPDE I could then see a justification for ease of pad changing, but if you are squashing your brakes constantly then your driving must really suck.
It seems most folks looking to upgrade do it for the 'look' and less for the actual function, which is fine if you have the time/money. But don't try to justify saying rear disks are superior for the street or autox, because they are not.

I'm doing my brake upgrade mostly for looks. I have to accentuate my wheels nicely, you know.
