Default Does a traction bar harm suspension dynamics?

Does installing a traction bar inplace of the stock crossmember affect the cars handling in a negative way? I plan to run the front damper with the traction bar.

I am finishing my turbo setup and want to create as much space as possible and still keep a front mount. I read few cracks against traction bars and im wondering if they are just inexperience talking or the truth
thanks

Here is the one I am looking at http://www.explicitspeedperfor....html

The stuff you have read is probably in reference to putting a traction bar on a car that previously didn't have a brace going across on the front of the chassis, like a civic....

Putting a traction bar on a prelude isn't going to hurt anything, unless it isn't made correctly. The explicit one should do fine.

Not necessarily. There is one major flaw with the design.

It has to do with where it attaches to the LCA's.

whats the flaw?
Is there another traction bar that is made better?

it has to do with only using one bolt instead of two and mounting it underneath the arm instead of untop. i think the axle will rub if the car is lowered
unless their is anything else the car should still drive like normal

Roller: Do you think that there's no possible way for you to run your setup without the traction bar? Have you tried notching the crossmember and front mount? I'm also looking into the same traction bar, but if I can avoid spending the money on that by notching the front mount and crossmember I will do that instead.

Which one did you end up going with? How much did your wallet take a hit for?

We designed one about 2 years ago but never got around to releasing it. I went ahead and finished the design up on a customers car last month so I plan on releasing them in the next month or so. I had to change the design on the LCA a few times due to the heim joints we will be using.

The ExplicitSpeed one is somewhat decent but it has several design flaws in relation to suspension dynamics and safety. The PFI Speed one is horrible. It only uses a fixed mounting to the LCA which throws the mounting point about 1.5" off from the mounting point on the bar. That puts the radius rod under a tremendous amount of stress having to 'bend' the bar in order to meet up properly. Any of you guys that have installed this bar know what I am talking about. Since it also uses a fixed mount it limits suspension travel by a theortical maximum of 11 degrees in one direction, which equates to about 1.75" of movement. All cars do not sit the same height as you know. They did incorperate a multi-location point on the bar but it still is not the optimal design.

The reason I never got around releasing our bars was due to a fall-out that we had with a local machine shop that was doing our machine and finishing work at the time. I was completely swapmed with work and making the machine shops 'expletive-up' right so releasing the bars were put off. We have a current customers 4th gen looking to make around 550whp with a H23a1 and he asked about our design so his car pretty much had us sit back down and re-engineer our older design and produce a product that is 2nd to none.

i was always wondering this. would the traction bar have a negative effect on an auto-x or road race car?

It may not be an engineering marvel, but it works.

Can't wait to your design.

But since im using a simple log manifold for now it wont be that bad. I would just like the traction bar for traction u know? I am very interested in precisionh23a design

If you actually sit down and look at where the stresses are in the member, it's not the safest design due to the amount of stress placed at the LCA member. Talk about a stress riser.

It's not a matter of if it works... it's a matter of if you feel comfortable driving around under those conditions. The Hinderburg worked. But what happened to it again?

Anyways, I'm not trying to turn this thread into a publicity thread. I'll have more information in the next month or so after I have the time to do some testing on the units

Very useful info here man, thanks for the insight. Keep us updated about your traction bar (possible release date, price, etc).

i know the old explicit bars only mounted with one bolt to the lca, now the one i got has a bracket that utilizes both bolt holes of the lca. i dont know if that is what you guys are talking about. also the radius rod use adjustable hiem joints.

The jam nuts on my PFI bar keep coming loose where the radius rod meets the lca

After I get an alignment, I will have to use locktite or something similar on it.

When did you purchase yours? Have you consulted with PFI regarding that?
