Default 20k miles and about time for new tires!

Welp, the time is nearing. These stock summer tires just dont hold up to the abuse i have given them. I am looking for the best all season tires this time around. I will be getting some new wheels later for summer/performance tires, but right now i need to know what the best (and longest lasting) tires would be from anyones experience.

Here in texas I really only need good water handling, never really worry much about ice.

Would like to keep it ~100/tire.

Id get on ebay and get a new set of falkens or kuhmos. Unless you roadrace your car or something crazy its not worth spending a ton of money on tires. You can get brand new sets off ebay of falken and kuhmo tires for 250-300 a set shipped to your door. For the price theres no reason not to do something like that, and they will last as long as the rest with mild-hard driving.

Kumho Ecsta ASX

/Thread

No other tire comes close to the performance of the ASX for the money spent. I have owned all of the tires mentioned in this thread (some of which are NOT all seasons) and the ASX outperforms all of the All-Seasons listed all for $81/tire. If you are willing to spend more I would recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS or Pirelli PZero Nero M/S but in your price range there is only really one good choice.

Thank you for that informed reply instead of just naming a tire. Sounds like thats the choice for me.

A few things I forgot to add, it is $81 a tire on Tire Rack, but you can get Discount Tire/America's Tire to price match so that should save you some $$. Also, make sure to rotate the tires frequently, the only downside to the ASX is that due to its aggressive tread design it can get a bit loud if not rotated frequently (~7,500-10,000 miles). For this trade off though, you get much better dry and wet handling than many tires in its class that cost a considerable amount more.

I also got kuhmo asx for about 8k now. Good traction in the dry and good in the wet. I have been pretty hard on them at times, but they have held up very well. Id reccomend them as an all season with a good price

dood is on the money! I haven't personally owned the ASX, but I've owned the 712s, and those were a huge upgrade from the Kumho 711 and the sorry *** Falken Ziex whatever those things are

to Kumho tires, cheap and effective

They will be fine, but like I said above, the Kumho Ecsta ASX can't be beat for the money. I have owned both the NeoGen and ASX and other than more NVH from the ASX it absolutely destroyed the NeoGen.

not for "all season"

treadwear isn't good enough for long term usage.

My old car was sittin on some Toyo Proxes 4. They never did me any wrong and always treated me well. Lasted longer than they said they would too...prolly b/c i babied them alot and it was on a stock 2000 EX with no power at all.

But as soon as i get enough for wheels and tries im going to go back to Proxes 4 or Toyo T1R's.

Never had trouble with toyo so thats just my opinion. 125 a piece i think for the proxes 4's.

The RS2 and RT-615 are both SUMMER tires with a very short tread life, not at all what the OP was looking for. If you want maximum dry grip, the RT615 is hard to beat, but it is loud, has only decent wet performance, and wears out in 10,000-15,000mi. The Proxes 4 is not a bad tire per say, it is just much too expensive for the level of performance it provides. For Proxes 4 money you can get a much better tire like the Bridgestone RE960A/S which is the current king of the UHP A/S tires (along with the Pirelli PZero Nero M/S and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S). The same goes for the T1R. While it rides nice due to softer sidewalls, the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 provides much better all around performance for less money, and the Kumho Ecsta SPT provides 99.9% of the performance for 50% of the price.

Not trying to highjack this thread, but I figure it is not worth opening a new topic.

Here is my question:

I currently have 17x7 stock rims with 215x45x17 stock all season tires, but have a set of 18x7 HFP rims on the way in the mail. I am thinking of putting the Kumho Ecsta ASX in a 225x40x18 on as a good all weather tire with some perfomance improvements. But how much will this throw off my speedo? Will the 45 to 40 height offset the 17" to 18" rim? If I understand correctly, I should not have a problem with rubbing, even with the HFP suspension, with 225x40x18. If this not correct, please let me know.

Thanks.

you will NOT have a problem rubbing with that setup w/ a 225/40/18
Keep in mind that the rim/tire combo is an option from the dealer so they cant be off "anything significant"
