Default Lowering springs or stock?

I just recently bought an 00' s2k and I'm wondering if its worth it to buy springs (Tien, Eibach, Skunk2) or if its better to keep it with stock suspension and save up for pro coil-overs? Because i want the look but I know springs aren't the best for a smooth ride. what do you guys think?

Well, springs are gonna be great for a smooth ride, actually. Coilovers are the ones that get into the harsh rides. There are a lot of variables to coilovers as well. You could end up buying a $2600 dollar coilover system and your car might end up handling worse than a $140 dollar lowering spring setup. If you need to ask that question, im guessing you're pretty new to the game. Instead of throwing loads of cubic dollars at it, you should go to a REPUTABLE shop or other REPUTABLE (cant stress that enough) source to get some advice on what you're trying to do with the car. BTW, im a reputable source . I've had full coilovers, i've had custom springs on sleeve overs with gas shocks on my other cars, and I now have lowering springs on my S2000. I wanted to have a comfortable ride..and im kinda holdling out on getting coilovers. I'm very happy with my skunk2 springs that cost me $142. It seems like a lot of people name ****** and want you to go out and get the most ridiculously expensive stuff ever. Learning how to drive your car fast is FREE!! Remember, your car is probably going to be a street car, or you wouldnt have asked that question. A street car doesnt need a race car suspension. It can actually be counter productive. Tell me what you want to set up the car for, and i can give you some advice, if you'd like.

Oh, also..if someone gives you advice, make sure they have some kind of reasoning that makes sense behind it. If they dont, it usually means that they just want to give you an opinion that may have no basis of truth to it.

Then it doesn't matter what you buy. If you want the look and don't care about how your car actually handles, then waste your money on whatever products you wish.

thanks for the advice guys...i guess i'm just kind of unsure about suspension because i've had a couple of civics that i lowered on springs and they rode like crap....and i'm trying to do it right this time especially on an s2k. What spring do you suggest for a good clean drop and nice/handeling/ride?...skunks?

I really like my SKUNK2s. They're great bang for the buck IMO. I got them for $142 shipped on ebay. The ride is great, and the car still handles awesome...just different. Just get a good alignment, and you'll be fine. When you lower your car, if you want to do it properly: Dont tighten your bolts that go thru bushings when the control arm is at full droop. Compress your suspension by using a jack to jack up your control arm while the Spring/shock combo is in (use jackstands on the other corners for safety DUH) and then tighten the bolt for the shock to control arm. This prevents over twisting your bushing when you put the car down. Let me know if you want a better explanation. I'm in a hurry right now.

Sport springs with performance shocks. No need to really spend money on coilovers if you arent really going to move up and down.

Our car rides great on s-techs, not too different from stock. It's about 1k stiffer and about an inch lower.

I dont really know anything about the TEIN S TECH or the GF210. I know that I really do like my Skunk2s though. They are a 2.25'' front drop and a 1.85'' rear drop. I bought these because lets face it...they make the car look better than other lowering springs. The ride is pretty close to stock. I have stock shocks and it's not very bouncy at all. They do great over bumps, and they handle awesome as well. I've only had the car on the track when it was stock...the weekend i bought it. I lowered it a week after i bought it. The season was over by then...but i'll be going back to the track this spring/summer to see how they are. I kept my stock springs, though. you never know. So far, i love em. Now i'm just waiting on my wheels to get off the stupid boat from Japan.

what about the spoon springs, you would think they are made for jus a safe option other than stock, right?

One thing to keep in mind is that whenever you raise or lower your car you need to get an alignment. Hence with coilovers, every adjustment to height requires an alignment.

Good Luck!!

Definately do an alignment no matter how subtle the drop. You can really F$#K up the handling of a sensitive *** car like an S2K with a bad alignment. I suggest camber angles (depending on wheel/tire width) of about -1.5 front and -1.75 to -2 rear. Factory toe. And as much caster as you can get out of the front. Which is usually around 6 degrees.

Spoon springs are a very subtle drop. Im sure they handle great as well....but I mean...spending that much on lowering springs seems like a waste. Maybe im wrong though, i've never ridden in a car with them. A shop owner out here has them on his personal S2K.

The reason I got the skunk2s is because i wanted a quality drop, but only wanted to spend minimal $$. Plus, they were an agressive drop but still rode great. My friend has them on his car...and after riding in it, i figured i'd spend the $145. Why the hell not. I wouldnt mind spending big bucks on a coilover system....but i hate the way coilovers ride. I'm not looking to make a crazy race car. My S13 had coilovers and SO MUCH pillowball stuff that driving it around was annoying. It handled insanely well, though. Oh well. Im looking to keep the S2000 more street. I guess i grew up or grew out of it..whichever. If im trying to make a dedicated track car or something close...i'll think about getting some agressive coilovers and spending as much time and money on suspension tuning as i did on my S13. Otherwise, im very happy with my springs.

Thanks. Good luck. If you do get them, remember that the THICKER ones go in the rear. This is unlike the policy with most women. Maybe thats why when i called Skunk2, the female receptionist told me to put the thinner ones in the rear. When i called back to make sure she knew what she was talking about, the handed the phone to a tech who told me the thinner ones go out front and the thick ones in back. My friend did it the wrong way, unfortunatey...so his car looks like he's always flooring it.
