Free Program to Download Threads Full of Images
I've been developing a program over the past few weeks for myself which allows users to download & save all images contained within a message board thread, no matter how many pages it is. I thought I'd share it with you guys in case anyone is interested. I'm posting this now because I just released the second version of it today with more features.
Feel free to try it out & tell me what you like/don't like about it:
http://keebler65.home.comcast.net/ThreadSummarizer
Note: Version 1.2 released on 1/9/07
Edit: Please check the Instructions and FAQ pages before posting questions about using this program -- most of your questions will be answered on these pages.
Notes to mods/admins:
- This program is completely free. There is no shareware version, and therefore I am not charging any money for this program. There is no advertising contained within the web site or the program.
- The program includes settings to limit server load to that of what a typical user would browse a forum.
- Feel free to contact me if there are any problems with this post.

Never said it hadn't been done before
I don't have personal experience with the one you mentioned. I do know that the whole world does not use FireFox. Additionally, I'm sure the features are different between the two. I posted this on another board and someone mentioned mine had a function that the others didn't...I'll try to find the post as I can't remember what this feature was.

well it does work (the concept) and it's helpful. download them all allows for any extension to be selected (.zip, .rar. etc etc ) to be selected

Yeah this program is definitely targeted at downloading images (more specifically, message board threads full of images).
Do you happen to know off-hand if the program you're referring to will download a user-specified range of pages? That feature is basically why I built the program. I know DLTA will download all links on a page (as will Thread Summarizer), but I was unable to find on their website if you could specify a range of pages to download, even if the links to those pages were not present.
It should be noted that I didn't make this program to make money -- I simply did it as a programming exercise for myself, because I'm currently learning a new language and this was the best way for me to learn.

This program scans through the pages of a thread and downloads all of the pages temporarily. It then scans those pages for images, and saves those images to your hard drive depending upon the filtering parameters that you set (minimum file size, etc). It will not actually save the text -- the purpose of the program is to keep the user from having to manually view every page of a thread, and "right-click / save as" each image that they want to keep.

it shows that it downloaded about 68 pics, but when i go to the folder, it didn't. it's empty.
not sure what's going on, i cancelled it after a while, it kept giving me "page download failed"
the program window is huge, you might want to make them different windows, for "advanced settings", "save parameters", etc. to clean up the program a bit.
looks good though, hopefully i can figure out what i'm doing wrong.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'll start off with saying to check out the website when issues like this arise, because I spent a fair amount of time documenting the common problems that might come up until you familiarize yourself with the program.
In your screenshot, the first thing I noticed was that your browser of choice is FireFox. This is fine, but if the site requires authentication (where you need to send a cookie), the cookie will have to be present in your Internet Explorer cookie cache. To do this, simply open Internet Explorer, and log in to the site you're trying to download from. Always select (if available) an option on the login page that says "Keep me logged in" or similar.
Regarding the page download failed problem: This is purely determined by the advanced settings, among other variables. When this happens, many things can be the cause including a slow server, slow internet connection, etc. The best way to prevent this is to increase the Page Thread Delay and decrease the number of Page Threads.

Your screenshot shows that 68 pics were downloaded, but that zero were saved to disk. If you cancel an operation, nothing is saved.

Point taken
This thought occurred to me early on in development, but it was quickly forgotten because I developed it on a 19" LCD
I'll definitely take note of this suggestion for the next release though, as it is obvious that many people run their monitors at lower resolution.

FAQ
Why does an error occur when launching ThreadSummarizer.exe?
This program requires the .NET 2.0 Framework runtime. If you launch the program and it crashes right away, chances are you don't have the .NET 2.0 Framework runtime installed. This is available as a free download from Microsoft.

You mean if you didn't cancel the process
Typically when someone cancels the process, it's because they want to modify the settings and re-try the capture. In this case, you wouldn't have a need to save your progress if you're just going to start it all over.
