Default Spoon Calipers and JDM 16" wheels, 5mm8mm...lots-o-pics

I recently bought a set of CW 16" wheels without thinking about if they were going to fit or not. I painted them a gunmetal color I found at auto zone along with a clear coat.

After spending 4 hours painting

I tried putting them on and was shocked they didnt fit. After consulting BlueR, some other friends, and SEARCHING, I realized that this is normal and I would need a spacer! After talking to Marc, him being the person that he is told me that he would send me some 5mm spacers to test out but I would have to send them back. I was stoked and crossing my fingers that 5mm would be enough.

Through the holiday I was very impatient and found a shop that sold 8mm spacers. Very generic and not hubcentric, but i tried them any way. They worked with quite a bit of room, although I wasnt happy with the amount of threads I had left on the lugs. I was still hoping the 5mm would fit!

Last night I recieved the 5mm spacers from Marc, I/as well as anyone else that has dealt with BlueR cannot begin to define the amazing business that he can provide. If he can get it, I wont buy from anyone else! A superb person to deal with!!!

Back to the dubs, I slap on the spacers, slap on the wheels, they fit!!! Again discussing and sharing pics with friends, a few are concerned with the amount of clearance I have. We agreed we'd get the rest of HT's opinion....

On the car:

I've had a few pm's asking what steps I took to get my wheels to look that way.

First, I cleaned each wheel, I got them from someone who kept them clean so this step was easy.
Second, I took a 3m scuff pad(the purple one) and scrubbed the wheels down.
Third, cleaned off all the dust.
Fourth, I used index cards around the wheels, front and back, to keep from painting the tires. I also used packing tape to tape off the surface that meets the hub.
Fifth, I sprayed them with two coats of the duplicolor stuff, again, front and back.
Sixth, while the 2nd coat was still wet I sprayed on a generous coat of clear coat.
Seventh, thats it.

Honestly, I was kinda half assing them. Later on down the road when I get new tires I will do them again. Either this way or powder-coat/professional paint. I'm really impressed with how good they turned out. These wheels IMHO are the best stock wheels honda ever came out with.

Thanks for all the compliments! The duplicolor stuff didnt have a name/color code. I needed 4 cans to finish, I still have a bit let in the 4th....

hmmm, interesting that the JDM 16's don't clear the spoon calipers, yet the UKDM 15's clear them OK.

any reasons for this?

pretty nice brother nice job on the repaint. looks like there isnt any contact with the brakes...so is there enough thread on the lugs with the 5mm spacers without worry? either way, looks like a 55 offset using spacers cured the problem.

So the JDM 16's do not bolt up to the USDM ITR without a spacer ?? I would have thought they fit right up .. this is good info.

Is that picture with OEM suspension ?? If not, what's your suspension setup ??

Its looking good with the JDM's !!

Wheels look really good. You should post a pic with the 8mm spacers also.

There is plenty of thread on the lugs. I am 100% confident on that. Thanks for the compliments.

With spoon calipers the JDM 16" wheels DO NOT fit. You need atleast a 5mm spacer.

Suspension is Mugen Lowdowns.

I didnt take any pics with the 8mm but Friday I plan on messing with the car, I'll put the 8mm's and snap a few pics...

that clearance is too close for comfort.
even though i dont have spoon calipers. but im sure the issue has come up many times.
still nice job on the DIY on the wheels.

did u ever think of using extended bolts and lugs? just to give yourself a little bit of space to play with.

cant wait till my R is done. paint might not be entirely finished but car will be.

They came that way, I really dont mind it as long as they are balanced.

My spoon calipers are stained that way. There is no hope in cleaning them. Next step is to paint them black!
