Default Timing belt and TDC marks

Im trying to install my new timing belt. Going by helms manual and well im trying to put the cam shafts and gears at TDC. I got the arrows to point upward but the TDC groves on the cam gears don't seem exactly lined up with the cylinder head. Any input on this?

There isn't anyway I could've put the cam shafts on wrong is there? I know I got the intake and exhaust cams correctly and put everything on correctly so far.

there are little holes on the cam holders, right by the gears. you put something through them to hold the cams where they belong. if they still dont line up right then try taking the gears off and putting them back on and make sure the retainers are in there and not damaged

Seeing if the lines on the camgears are matching with the block can be tricky. When ever you have the arrows pointed straight up, the lines marked below will also match up. As long as they are lined up together you will be fine.

take a ruler and go from the middle of the cam bolts to the other cam bolt, and that's where the line should line up at.

Sweet. Thank you guys for the input. I think I have realized why they don't line up perfectly with the head. I have all my valve lashes loos so that I can adjust them later on and maybe thats why the lines are a little off from the head.

Sounds like from you guys input im fine to continue.
